Sen. John McCain in his new memoir makes the confession that the Iraq War was a "mistake" and says he shoulders part of the blame, Vox reported Friday.
He explained the Iraq War "can't be judged as anything other than a mistake, a very serious one, and I have to accept my share of the blame for it."
McCain was a steadfast supporter of the initiative to go to war with Iraq during the administration of former President George W. Bush.
"I came out of the Vietnam War convinced that frankly we could have won, and we had it won," Politico's Michael Hirsh said the Arizona Republican told him in 2014. "Just as I believed we had the Iraq conflict won after the surge and for which I sacrificed everything, including my presidential ambitions, that it would succeed."
Even back in 2005, when 66 percent of the country was against the effort to bring democracy to Iraq, McCain doubled down on his support of the war.

“I dont think itll be discussed much.”
It will be discussed ad infinitum on the leftist media. Every day or two they will turn a page and breathlessly report a new “shocking “ revelation.
Good points.
I used to believe that Bush did what was then the right thing based on the best Intel available to him at that time. After having gotten to know the swamp, I don’t believe that any more.
How about the Vietnam War, John? Got an opinion on that?
The mistake was believing the Democrats would follow through on their expressed support for the missions. But scumbags like Jack Murtha proved otherwise by pissing on the troops.
The mistake was believing we’re a country that’s unified at the water’s edge. But scumbags on the Left and in Media proved otherwise by demoralizing the Country and shaming the troops and by extension their families.
The Iraq War was complicated, but it wasn’t a mistake.
Right about what?
He pushed for it when the Democrats supported it and now says oops, continuing to toe the Democrat line when things got tough and it was costing everybody political power.
Either the asshole was right when he condemned the Iraqis to death along with our soldiers or he wasnt.
Saying now that it was a mistake is a firing offense. It was a bad call Ripley.
Just hang on a few more days ya dbag.
McCain and some Bush Family drama were probably the only reasons we got into Iraq.
I remember asking myself...”ok, 911 was setup in Afghanistan and Yemen and we decide to attack Iraq?”
“Few Democrats care for the guy. Very few Republicans care for him.....”
But elites, Dem and GOPe, have been working together to hail him as an honorable politician.
John McCain knows it’s Bush/Cheney who will bear all the blame.
Hillary also claimed that she made a mistake, she voted for the Iraq invasion.
I believe myself today in hindsight that it was a mistake to invade Iraq the second time....no question in my mind
The bitter fruits of that are bountiful
We all got caught up in it......it was a strategic message to any nation thinking of hosting large scale jihad targeted at us
We will come for you and regime change
But the Middle East is worse off now for our effort.....
My view
Saddam ...monster he was ...was a fundie slayer of the first order and balanced Iran
Plus its the ultimate hubris to think primitive superstitious peoples of varied ethnicities who hate each other can be forced to live together especially under the Pollyanna notion of democracy or if they even want it
Maybe they actually refer warlord tribalism or supreme ruler over our so called freedom
john McCain was his mothers biggest mistake.
Shut up and die McLoser! ...
I don’t care what this vile man thinks.
If he thought Iraq was a mistake, why did he choose to urge Obama to fund the Muslim Brotherhood in Libya? This resulted in the nation being in a state of civil war that I believe is still raging today, upwards of three faction claiming leadership.
Then the bastard urged action in Syria.
He thinks he’s a statesman.
He’s a saboteur.
He sees himself as another Churchill. (Yes I know, but he does.) I see Barnie Fife.
He didn’t sacrifice a damn thing.
Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time.
McCain had Presidential ambitions? Please! Nicole Wallace - THAT’S a bold faced lie. Call him out as being a liar in a liar’s world.
Many people vote the name on the ballot they know. They do not base their vote on any current research and background. IMHO, the majority of people do not think about their vote (and are ignorant/stupid.)
Eldon Rudd was amongst Arizona’s best Conservatives to have served in Congress.
The Iraq War, like nonimating/electing GWB, was a mistake.
