Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Thursday after attending a classified briefing that he continues to support special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.
McConnell told NPR that Mueller's investigation and a separate probe by the Justice Department's inspector general into the FBI's actions during the 2016 election will ultimately provide answers to a number of questions swirling around the presidential race.
"The two investigations going on that I think will give us the answers to the questions that you raise the [inspector general] investigation in the Justice Department and the Mueller investigation," McConnell told NPR.
"I support both of them, and I don't really have anything to add to this subject based upon the Gang of Eight briefing that we had today, which was classified."
McConnell's vote of confidence in Mueller's investigation came after he attended a highly classified meeting with top law enforcement and intelligence officials on Thursday.
The White House brokered a pair of briefings between officials and key lawmakers at the Justice Department to discuss the FBI's use of a top-secret informant in the early days of a counterintelligence probe into Russia's role in the 2016 election.
The briefing attended by McConnell was given to the so-called "Gang of Eight" a bipartisan group of lawmakers, consisting of the four top congressional leaders and the top Republicans and Democrats on the House and Senate Intelligence committees.
The White House had initially pushed for Justice Department officials to brief a select group of Republican lawmakers on Thursday, but arranged for a second, broader bipartisan briefing after facing pressure from Democrats and some Republicans.
Reports have indicated that the FBI source met with three advisers to President Trump's campaign during the 2016 election. Trump and his allies have claimed without evidence in recent days that the FBI used the informant to improperly spy on his campaign.
Trump has asserted that Mueller's investigation is a "hoax" and a "witch hunt" intended to undermine his presidency.
The Dems march in lockstep. The Pubbies are a pile of loose sand.
Throw him in the grave with McCain.

Seems the only way to get rid of these rats. I am good if he leaves soon with McCain.
This sez McConnell and Ryan are DIRTY! they need to go now!
Chinas puppet speaks. Wonder why he is not being investigated?
Any Republican that ties themselves to this illegitimate “investigation” does so at their own risk.
Agreed. I believe he only needs to "nuke" one of these gargoyles at the bottom of the pyramid to get things off TDC, but at this point, I don't care if he starts a fire on both sides of the congressional aisle and burns it to the center.
With even Grassley saying that firing of Mueller or Sessions would bring on an impeachment case why would you hand the enemy this weapon? Without firing these guys months ago, when everyone suggested Trump do so, look at what has come to light. And the public is siding with Trump while losing patience with the rest. Trump SHOULD NOT cross the Rubicon yet. A better time would be after the GOP wins in November. Then give them hell!
And why is she a cabinet secretary?!
Alea iacta est
On November 8, 2016, Donald Trump landed behind enemy lines and he's been on the run since. He's still fighting but his presidency is a long shot given what we have allowed to fester in DC over many decades. Voting isn't the answer to this rot. Nationwide civil disobedience has a better chance.
In hoc signo vinces
Just what we should expect from a democrat.
The Clinton campaign also were involved with Russians. So why no spies in their campaign?
People in KY are repeatedly blind-sided when it comes to their McC; just like the Arizonans with their McC.
Youre right. Our Founders imagined people would, out of patriotism, be willing to spend a few years in the (litera) swamp. Then they would return to their farms and businesses.
Thats why DC was built in a swamp. It was supposed to be an unpleasant place to be so politicians werent tempted to stay too long.
Our Founders miscalculated the potential for greed and avarice. Otherwise, they would have included term limits.
Mccain was a hard one to run against.. he was ruthless to the point others preferred not to run... he had a lock on that state. mc has a lock.. not sure why... didn’t Trump appoint his wife for something? can’t stand mcconnell and ryan either... some just stick out with elitism and both of those do.
Was it Brennan or clapper that threatened Ryan and McConnell? Maybe this is good news because they couldnt stop whats coming out. I heard McConnell has been enriching himself and his kids for a while.
TRAITOR !
As a MA voter, I can’t tell you how many times I was surprised to see Ted Kennedy acting like a drunken socialist.
