Statement From NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell
NFL Communications ^ | 5/23/2018 | Roger Goodell

Posted on 05/23/2018 9:37:59 AM PDT by bankwalker

The policy adopted today was approved in concert with the NFL’s ongoing commitment to local communities and our country — one that is extraordinary in its scope, resources, and alignment with our players. We are dedicated to continuing our collaboration with players to advance the goals of justice and fairness in all corners of our society.

The efforts by many of our players sparked awareness and action around issues of social justice that must be addressed. The platform that we have created together is certainly unique in professional sports and quite likely in American business. We are honored to work with our players to drive progress.

It was unfortunate that on-field protests created a false perception among many that thousands of NFL players were unpatriotic. This is not and was never the case.

This season, all league and team personnel shall stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem. Personnel who choose not to stand for the Anthem may stay in the locker room until after the Anthem has been performed.

We believe today’s decision will keep our focus on the game and the extraordinary athletes who play it—and on our fans who enjoy it.

POLICY STATEMENT

The 32 member clubs of the National Football League have reaffirmed their strong commitment to work alongside our players to strengthen our communities and advance social justice. The unique platform that we have created is unprecedented in its scope, and will provide extraordinary resources in support of programs to promote positive social change in our communities.

The membership also strongly believes that:

All team and league personnel on the field shall stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.

The Game Operations Manual will be revised to remove the requirement that all players be on the field for the Anthem.

Personnel who choose not to stand for the Anthem may stay in the locker room or in a similar location off the field until after the Anthem has been performed.

A club will be fined by the League if its personnel are on the field and do not stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.

Each club may develop its own work rules, consistent with the above principles, regarding its personnel who do not stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.

The Commissioner will impose appropriate discipline on league personnel who do not stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.

“created a false impression”.... and I bet Goodall means it too.

I’m glad they’ve finally done something but seriously too late for me. Not interested.

no pink bs.

At least not yet. Some of the minor league teams have Pink in the Rink night, where they actually color the ICE pink.

Sadly the NHL does have an "Anyone Can Play" night celebrating homosexuality.

...one that is extraordinary in its scope, resources, and alignment with our players...

Extraordinary? Yes, patriotism and love of country is becoming uncommon today.
However, love of money and self interest is above country now.

Uuuuummmmm, so riddle me this Batman, since the players were SSSSOOOOOO concerned about “social issues” and the NFL swore to pony up money for said player social issues, the only player I see putting up his own money is JJ Watt...I haven’t seen any players in this off season out there “helping their community.”

If there was any “justice or fairness” Goodell would be on a street corner carrying a “Will Work for Food” sign. Unfortunately, sociopaths like him rise to the top.

Lol! The NHL is like all sports rolled into one: the full-body hits make it like the nfl; the swinging sticks and 100+ mph flying pucks make it like the mlb; the breakaways towards the net make it like the nba and soccer; the breathtaking speed make it like NASCAR; and the fights make it like the MMA!

But fighting and the goon/enforcer role is dying in the NHL. One of the greatest enforcers still playing is Ryan Reaves, currently with the Vegas Golden Knights. Earlier in his career, he trained to be a brawler. But he was smart enough to see the NHL is moving towards speed over brawn.

So Reaves adjusted: he began working on his scoring skills, in particular, the tip in. All that practice paid off when he tipped in the puck to win the Western Conference for Vegas last Sunday.

That little anecdote serves the bigger picture that the NHL is changing for the better, and at the expense of all the Barack Ghettobama leagues such as the nfl and nba.

Oh, I forgot to mention this: Ryan Reaves is black.

Can the players who refuse to keep to business during business hours. There are plenty of others out there who want a chance at playing professional football.

Catering to these people is almost as offensive as the players refusing to respect our nation and flag.

The mental failure of the NFL leadership to get a grip here is astounding.

Goodell actually thinks this nothing burger is going to placate people?

As ignorant as these people are, I almost expect him to make a statement like this, thinking it will work.

“Dear NFL viewers. We realize that some of you have been ‘put off’ by the refusal of some of our players to stand for the national anthem. To make up for this and show how sincere we are, on May 26th, we will sacrifice ten ten year old virgin girls on a alter in Kansas City. We hope this will impress you with how sincere we are about changing for the better. In the future we will only allow half the players who want to kneel, do it. Thank you for your support.”

Perhaps I shouldn’t give people this mentally challenged an idea.

I have never seen players in the NHL disrespect the anthem, and most of them aren’t even American (Canadians, Russians, Czechs, Swedes and Finns mostly).

The NFL has been anti-conservative for many years.

Rush Limbaugh was sidelined by ESPN because of these same forces.

They hated and sidelined Tim Tebow even though he was a big draw for them.

They took up the banner of so-called “equality” under the sexual perversion agenda.

Then they refused to enforce their own policies to reign in the unpatriotic protests being conducted by players while they were on the clock.

Personally, I’ve always resented the massive salaries that sports and entertainment celebrities make when people who are otherwise productive with their minds or even via skilled labor do not earn anywhere near in comparison. But maybe such envy is a character flaw.

Regardless, I certainly do not intend to financially reward those who openly wage war against my values and beliefs.

The NFL is run by rich elites who despise me and my values. They wish to placate me (and the unpatriotic protestors) for the sake of their own enrichment and nothing else.

Forgive me, but I have no sympathy for the tiny financial loss this whole fiasco has caused the NFL. I wish it was far more.

This is a non-apology, apology that the left is so experienced at. For me, apology NOT ACCEPTED.
