A pilot project in Germany is working to make it easier for asylum seekers to become truck drivers – an initiative that comes amid widespread unemployment for migrants who arrived during the migrant crisis. The German Red Cross and the Logistics Organisation want to alleviate the shortage of drivers in the state of Schleswig-Holstein with targetted recruiting of asylum seekers, in moves that have been praised as “imaginative and praiseworthy” by regional Economics Minister Bernd Buchholz, reports Kieler Nachrichten.
A similar nation-wide programme of hiring asylum seekers and refugees as truck drivers was pushed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel after she opened Europe’s borders to over one million Middle Eastern and African migrants in 2015, the vast majority of whom are unskilled.
In September 2016, two prominent German driving associations rejected Merkel’s calls – their comments coming just three months before Libyan failed asylum seeker Anis Amri stole an articulated lorry, killed the Polish driver, and drove it into a Berlin Christmas market killing 11 and injuring over 50.

Besides the obvious reason as to why this is a daft idea, there are others.
For example, my sister’s fiance recently passed his HGV license. It cost him an arm and a leg (not far off £2,000 all in I believe).
He had to work 2 jobs to save up to do this, but yeah. Why not just give these courses away free to people who haven’t contributed a bean?
This uneven and downright unfair treatment of taxpayers throughout the west will have dire consequences. I’m still unsure as to whom will reap the whirlwind though.

Back fifteen years ago in Germany, there were more than enough truck-drivers around. My wife has to deal with freight forwarders, and they all cite manpower shortages of long-haul truckers in Germany as a problem, and shipments are being delayed because there’s just not enough folks on the road.
If this state-sponsorship deal was even-handed....going to Germans on welfare status as well, then it wouldn’t bother me.

Merkel should consult with France before going through with that idea.
That is exactly what is happening in America
Last week I met a tall thin Asian thought to be Japaneese who had very little english. In spite of the language barrier, he managed to drive his 18 wheeler from California to East Tennessee
But, they will be well-trained to use the trucks to run over pedestrians out for a stroll. This is really forward thinking by the Germans.
The world needs ditch diggers too.
Make sure they are all HAZMAT certified so they can drive fuel and propane tanker trucks.
