A lawsuit filed last week calls for the desegregation of New Jersey schools, a potentially game-changing legal challenge for minority students across the state.
But how segregated are the state's schools?
Just 0.3 percent of the more than 6,700 students in Irvington Public Schools are white, making it the most non-white school district in the state, according to data from the nonprofit Center on Diversity and Equality in Education
And that's far from the only example of students of color being isolated.
About 66 percent of New Jersey's African American students and 62 percent of its Latino students attend schools that are more than 75 percent non-white, according to the lawsuit.
While the segregation is not mandatory -- it stems from affordable housing issues and the high correlation between race and socioeconomic status -- the lawsuit argues de facto segregation is unconstitutional in New Jersey based on prior state Supreme Court rulings.

"And that's far from the only example of students of color being isolated."
there's one or two white kids but its the black kids that are "isolated"....
BS....
NJ is all about those suburban school districts, it is their goddamned rasion d’etre, to borrow a phrase. Perhaps this would wake up this state. MAYBE. I HOPE.
Nope - start moving Whites out of their neighborhoods and into Black/Latino neighborhoods and sending the Blacks and Latinos to the nicer neighborhoods.....wait 2 years for the new slums to develop and do it again...
I never lived in Irvington.
I lived in Newark, about a block from where Irvington, Maplewood, and South Orange all came together. Near Seton Hall.
I left for good in 1964.
Or to risk their well-being by "acting" white. You know, behaving in class, studying, asking questions, taking an interest in becoming educated. BUT...it's getting hard to get white kids to do that.
Yeah, well, you sure as hell wouldn’t be getting my kid into that environment. Good luck finding people to sign up for that.
I went to Essex Catholic High School for two years, 71-73 and then I told my parents that no way was I going back!
This leads to the relevance of my article on Misdirection: Familiar Leftist Tactic.
I worked in a district with a large black population and can attest to the very palpable threat black students pose to white students.
It seemed like the black students took joy in beating, robbing and assaulting the white students. I was wholly unprepared for that level of irrational violence.
The white students just wanted to get through the day without being attacked. This of course indicated weakness to the black students. It was horrific, this constant mass hate crime, but what made it more horrific was the absolute apathy on the part of the (mostly white female) administrators, teachers, and staff, who seemed to intuitively side with the most powerful and violent boy. Those chicks just could not help it. They identified with the strongest of the herd - they could not escape their female programming.
After seeing all this first hand, I will never send my child to a public school and I will never willingly put my child in a class with blacks.
Why?
Because I love my child and want to protect her.
I guess I am a horrible person.
I think there are plenty of black parents that are right there with you.
They are the ones that no one truly cares about. Who speaks for them? The Democrats don’t. The Republicans don’t care about them neither.
Trump I believe is the one politician who can reach these people and make them feel that somebody is in their corner.
And that terrifies the Democrats and Republican elites.
repeal the 19th ...
I agree 100%. We were in school in Georgia when integration started and it was clear from the start that once there were enough black students to form their groups, the violence began and has never ended, only gotten worse. Our daughter went to private schools until the 8th grade. We were fortunate enough to have a decent high school so we got her back there for the experiences and had no problems.
I must note that the biggest victim demographic of black violence and crime is other blacks themselves.
It’s wrong that these people are cast to the wolves for political expediency.
Isn’t it great how Americans get to be treated as pawns in the social engineering games of our courts and gov’t bureaucracies? Acknowledging race is always verboten in American life, except when it suits whatever agenda that liberal ideologues have for the rest of us.
Nobody bats an eye when the lucky pawns are children, we all just treat this state of affairs as normal.
It is, of course, one of the great increases in the cultural elite’s power to impose their choices on lesser mortals, brought to us by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which if I understand Beck and Hannity and maybe even Rush was delivered from Mount Sinai.
And then they wonder how the Left has managed to garner so much power in this country. Go figure.
Yeah.. and a few of us can remember when southern California was still part of America.
Misdirection: Familiar Leftist Tactic
The hypocrisy of Leftist theorists pretending that their experiments benefit children is sickening!
Essex County, of course. Essex Catholic rings a bell. but faintly. Where was it?
Downtown.
I remember the Prudential. They must have torn it down to make apartments.
I lived in Vailsburg, Ivy Hill Apartments. Took the #54 bus to downtown.
Sorry, I mean converted it to a school. Back to coffee.
