A lawsuit filed last week calls for the desegregation of New Jersey schools, a potentially game-changing legal challenge for minority students across the state.
But how segregated are the state's schools?
Just 0.3 percent of the more than 6,700 students in Irvington Public Schools are white, making it the most non-white school district in the state, according to data from the nonprofit Center on Diversity and Equality in Education
And that's far from the only example of students of color being isolated.
About 66 percent of New Jersey's African American students and 62 percent of its Latino students attend schools that are more than 75 percent non-white, according to the lawsuit.
While the segregation is not mandatory -- it stems from affordable housing issues and the high correlation between race and socioeconomic status -- the lawsuit argues de facto segregation is unconstitutional in New Jersey based on prior state Supreme Court rulings.

I lived one block from my elementary school. Halfway through the 6th grade, they were going to buss me to North Memphis.
My parents pulled us from the public schools and we moved to Mississippi the next year.
Solution. Bus them to Nebraska.
Hate to 'rain' on your agenda. But the federal judges did a fine job of destroying school systems long before immigration became an issue. So the Dallas school district is only 22% Black instead of 90% Black. That doesn't impact the percentage of white students that attend more than a point or two from 5%.
White students want to go to school where they can learn and are not threatened with bodily harm every minute of the day.
Public Schools aren’t an instrument of education, they are the implementation of ethnic cleansing.
So, white students are magic. Merely having them helps raise other students abilities and performance. Perhaps the white students should be paid to attend school, as their primary role seems to be helping minorities. And, apparently are as important as the teachers to improving black performance.
I have a solution. Get the required number of non white students to self identify as white and all is well.

I think blacks should just segregate into their own schools.

That's the key feature of leftists. The belief that the problem isn't with their policies, but the people who tried to make the policies work before just weren't smart enough. But the latest "crop" of leftists, well, THEY'RE the smarted lot ever, and they're the ones who will finally make it work.
Spending a gazillion dollars to "degegregate" schools won't work. It didn't work in either St Louis or Kansas City, MO, after more than 40 years and many BILLIONS of dollars spent.
If they want to improve education, they could do it, but it wouldn't be racially sensitive. It's a three step plan:
1) Hold teachers and administrators responsible. If they fail, hold them responsible. If they continue to fail, fire them.
2) Hold students responsible, and enforce discipline. If there is no discipline, there will be no education. Disciplined students WILL learn.
3) Stop teaching that all cultures are equally worthy. They're not. Thinking that "culture is determined by race" is a lie perpetuated by the racist poverty pimps. Educating Blacks is no more "trying to make them "White" than educating Whites is trying to make them "Asian!"

What are they? Magic? That white IQ just rubs off?
Given that Ivy League schools are segregating students by race from dorms to retreats to graduation ceremonies, liberals should shut up and accept segregation K-12.
When you say whites are oppressing everyone and to simply have a majority white group is oppressive, this is what you WANT.
This type of non-white gathering is what you say is morally required and desired. You have it. Shut up and deal with it.
If you need the white kids there, they stop hating on them.
In Boston, back in the 70s, judge Arthur Garrity enforced bussing across the city so there would be less of an imbalance in public schools. It failed but the damage throughout the city was done.
Both cities are dumps. I know, I was born and raised across the Passiac River in Kearny.
True. I’d bet most of the black children don’t want to be in the Irvington school district either.
I lived in Newark from kindergarten thru high school.
I had a summer job once at an auto store that backed up on the Passaic River.
