President Trump will meet with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray on Monday afternoon amid a burgeoning dispute with federal law enforcement over the Russia probe.

A White House official called the meeting "routine" but also said that Trump's demand for a federal investigation into whether the FBI improperly infiltrated his campaign will likely come up.

Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats will also attend the meeting at the White House.

Mr. President, please protect yourself and announce that the meeting is being recorded by both audio and video.

“Give us a special counsel, not a toothless IG.”

That’s the core issue.

The IG has no authority to subpoena outside the DOJ, nor the authority to seek warrants for surveillance, arrest or to compel testimony.

Trump wants a US Attorney assigned with all those powers.

And NOT another Special Prosecutor.

The House and the Senate are very helpful in their continuing press to bring the evidence into the open

To condemn them as unhelpful is just foolish

“Sessions would have to first formally un-recuse himself in order to participate in any discussions of this matter.”

Correct. Session recused from all investigations concerning any campaign in 2016.

I have very, very little respect for the cowardly man for that recusal, but in his defense, that’s the current legal lay of the land.

See my #25.

It’s possible to have high disdain for Sessions and not be ignorant about it.

"With pink slips in hand?"

Hehehe, that would be a nice thought! But I suspect it will be a bit friendlier at least at the start. I hope he tosses this notion of handing it off to the OIG as the insult it is.

I'm betting it has something to do with production of records to Nunes's Intelligence Committee and to Grassley's Judiciary Committee? Those two need to be read the riot act about cooperation in Congressional oversight.

President Trump should say the magic two words.

Tell them they have 24 hrs to produce all requested documents to Congress complete and fully unredacted.

Any deviations will result in immediate termination of employment.

Have a nice day .

‘Where is Sessions? He’s their boss.’

Sessions is irrelevant. Rosenstein runs the DOJ. Trump isn’t going to waste time with the figurehead; he went straight to the top: Rosenstein.

Seems like Sessions would do the right thing and hand in his resignation.

" ....a team of untainted FBI agents to investigate illegalities in the US government surveillance of Trump people...."

Yeah, it'd be good to start with no-knock SWAT visits to thr homes of Brennan, Comey, Mueller and RosenWeasel.

Amen, SamAdams. If there’s anything we can deduce with confidence over the last 2.5 years it’s that Trump does indeed know what he’d doing — and that smart people often misinterpret his tactics,

But if you look at outcomes rather than what’s said and done along the way, Trump has been right on the money.

BTW, not in the least bit tired of winning and TRiUMPing in BIGLY fashion!

Where is Sessions? He’s their boss.

I'll answer your rhetorical question.

Sessions is a man of his word. When he says that he is recused, one should believe him. When he's not part of a meeting that is about anything connected to the campaign, there is no mystery why.

Perhaps he is going to fire them in person rather the the usual Twitter way. Or perhaps they will resign rather than do what the President asks!! Either way, when they go justice will be served.

Please don’t appoint any more DOJ attorneys, present or past, to be FBI Director. Choose only from within the ranks.

"Seems like Sessions would do the right thing and hand in his resignation."

That is what makes no sense. His failure to resign has caused massive damage. Only a scoundrel would fail to resign given this situation.

I see all the "armchair" presidents are checking in this afternoon.

You know, the ones that feel they know better than Trump and so presume to tell him how to run the country.

Yep, we have a lot of Cliff Clavins on Free Republic, that's for sure...
