You may ask, as others have, how can I have a moral grounding without god. Simple. Like all humans, I have emotions including: compassion, sympathy, empathy, love. I also have the emotions: hate, envy, jealousy, etc. I decided long ago to conduct my life with the positive emotions and try to ignore the negative emotions. I wish all humanity would do the same, but they don't.
I don't know if a deist designed those emotions for his gratification, or if they evolved according to Darwin.
I've lived my life by the axiom: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Seems to me the best way to live a life and minimize conflict.
Last thought: While I try to be a good person with others, I don't rule my life by emotion. I use logic, reasoning, and informed decisions to make my political decisions.
a couple corrections to your statement then i’ll leave you be on it. GOD does not need me to worship him, i need him, i try to be a good person but realize my righteousness is merely a false pride. God gives u and me free choice. government should be by logic and laws and minimally invasive as possible. i know i sin, the punishment of sin is death and hell, jews sacrificed lambs for death to passover, we have God incarnate as our lamb that paid my penalty so when GOD looks at me he doesn’t see my sins but the perfect sacrifice in my stead. GOD does not seem to judge and condemn us but to save us for glory, and we get to choose and i praise Him not because he demands it or to avoid hell but because he has saved me and my wife and children, and i owe him more than i could ever repay.
