President Trump accused the F.B.I. on Friday, without evidence, of sending a spy to secretly infiltrate his 2016 campaign for political purposes even before the bureau had any inkling of the phony Russia hoax.
In fact, F.B.I. agents sent an informant to talk to two campaign advisers only after they received evidence that the pair had suspicious contacts linked to Russia during the campaign. The informant, an American academic who teaches in Britain, made contact late that summer with one campaign adviser, George Papadopoulos, according to people familiar with the matter. He also met repeatedly in the ensuing months with the other aide, Carter Page, who was also under F.B.I. scrutiny for his ties to Russia.
The role of the informant is at the heart of the newest battle between top law enforcement officials and Mr. Trumps congressional allies over the F.B.I.s most politically charged investigations in decades. The lawmakers, who say they are concerned that federal investigators are abusing their authority, have demanded documents from the Justice Department about the informant.
Law enforcement officials have refused, saying that handing over the documents would imperil both the sources anonymity and safety. The New York Times has learned the sources identity but typically does not name informants to preserve their safety.

How far we have fallen...
To investigate an enemy surreptiously is to spyon him
OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!
Spin by Slimes.....
Its clear the Slimes is only interested in investigative reporting when it fits their agenda. The NY Times, “Only our agenda is fit to print.”
He was there to spy, not to spy. Which is OK. Because spying on political candidates is OK. If it benefits the Democrats. Everybody does it. It’s for the children. This is old news. Can we move on?
Shameful.
btt
Did the FBI also send an informant to Hilliarys campaign? After all, they were the ones supposedly hacked by the Russians and should have their ties checked as well. Haha
Weasels talking.
If about 100,000 people showed up to loudly protest outside the offices of the NY Times, maybe this type of dishonest obfuscation would stop.
But alas, only the left is that firm in their convictions. Conservatives just bitch and moan but never take any real action at all. They treat us like hapless idiots. And we let them.
Call it an informant or a spy—what’s the difference?
The goal was to bring down Trump by any means necessary. And this was a real challenge, considering Trump’s decades of public life, in which he was never caught at any crime.
This scandal makes Watergate seem about as serious as ripping the tags off of pillows once you get them home by comparison. Using the resources of the government to spy on a candidate, attempt to frame him, and then to try to render him ineffective once elected is unspeakably corrupt and outrageous. These are actions one would expect in a dictatorship like the old USSR. What has happened to our country? (I know—Bill Clinton and Barack Obama).
....and the actress arrested for shoplifting was only preparing for an acting gig.
Yeah....sure....OK...
... the pair had suspicious contacts linked to Russia during the campaign...
The pair were low level nobody’s who were used by the FBI to obtain a FISA warrant from a judge who apparently doesn’t mind his court being run by kangaroos.
More and more we see that the real enemies are the press. They believe they can 3-d print the society they faithfully hold to. News will find a different media very soon I think. Everything else will just be politics.
It all starts with a limited hangout. Then they slowly admit what they must, only when forced to do so. Heres the thing...these rogue agents worked inside an FBI that still had a vast majority of patriotic agents, who will help weed out the criminals in their midst. We are watching history unfold.
Spinning!
Carter Page, who long before the Trump campaign helped the FBI after he was approached by actual Russian spies in the course of his work. He became an FBI asset and helped them bust those Russians. Most likely the FBI asked him to approach the Trump campaign and then report to them. The FBI based the FISA court case on Pages history with the Russians (not mentioning that he was an FBI asset) and the fictional dossier. This is felony on top of felony.
