An "explosive" eruption from Kilauea's summit on Thursday morning sent an ash plume soaring some 25,000 feet into the air, and officials are warning that the ash will cover a large part of the Big Island.

What to do in case an eruption sends ashfall into your community
Scientists are warning about the possibility of an explosive eruption at Kilauea's summit. (Image: USGS)
The National Weather Service has issued an ashfall advisory after radar showed the massive plume.
Hawaii Volcano Observatory officials confirmed that there was an explosive eruption, but still have yet to assess whether it was a steam-driven explosion that they have been warning residents about for several days.
Talk about consummating a marriage !)
“My son is in Hawaii now on his honeymoon. Yikes!”
Then the answer is yes, the earth did move.
What a dumb place to have a summit about a live volcano threatening to erupt. Right next to the volcano.
A couple of great “faces” in that eruption.
The Hawaii volcanoes are basaltic and are not normally explosive. This one is having explosive events due to magma interacting with ground water and is producing steam-generated eruptions.
The ones that really blow their tops are andesitic in composition.
Hot spot versus subduction zone (overflowing pot vs. plates breaking). I think hot spots can blow but do so less often.
I am not a geologist nor have I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express.
That link is outstanding! Thanks very much for that.
You’re welcome.
My golfer pals probably wouldn’t let a volcanic eruption interfere with the game. Truly a different species.
I know right?! Do they remember Harry Truman and Mt. St. Helens?
Rumor has it that virgins are hard to find so no more sacrifices.
Exactly......
You still ok?
Which makes Madame Pele even angrier!
Look at Kilauea roar. I rest my case.

Wonder if any of these fools knows what a pyroclastic flow is?
I was selling Auto Parts in Texas (Imported Autos only) I had a Customer come in and purchase Every Air Filter I had in stock for His Toyota P/U and did the same for His Family and Friends that He called from the Store. I sold this Guy over $1200.00 in Air Filters that day. We loaded up His truck bed with them. I got calls for weeks from His other Family and Friends ordering more because there were none available up in the NW. Some of these people were changing Air Filters every day just to get to and from work. We tried to Drop Ship to them and were not allowed to because of the Shipping problems. It was stupid but I could have them shipped to the Store and then ship from there to the Customer via UPS. It was interesting Times back then.
Any SANE Volcano will be puking cankles hitlary RIGHT BACK OUT!!!
Same in desert shield desert storm ...... sent back home for cases of panty hose to make pre-filters over the stock air filters on our vehicles..... Wheeling these days I carry multiple AFE filters for just dust . Ever see the K&P lifetime oil filters ??

Also bypass filters for oil, coolant and transmission fluid by amsoil work well.
I had an air hose and an air tank on a m978 hemmtt fuel truck. Was a daily routine to pull the air filter and blow out the fine dust that accumlated in the filter. That pressurized air helped me keep my rifle clean too.
