Those cameras are low resolution and are for only determining whether or not there is a car in the lanes for giving you a green light or turn signal. They are only connected to the box on the corner to control the lights.
Cheaper and more reliable than the wires that they used to bury in the asphalt.
The surveillance cameras are the ones with the domed smoked cover hanging high from a pole. Not nearly as many of those.
LOL. not even close. There are sensors in the roads here in Texas anyway. They detect the metal of the vehicle via electrical induction. That is what triggers the lights. This is one reason that, depending upon where one is positioned in the lane, it may not trigger for motorcycles. The cameras are for surveillance. Why else do you put cameras in at intersections in one-redlight towns?

Both tactics are valid and useful in different ways.
Personally, I think it's past time to start shooting the bastards. That's one reason I don't get particularly bent out of shape when one of the mobile tax collectors has a not-so-friendly encounters with a victim of modern-day highway robbery. I'm actually genuinely surprised we don't see more examples of those following Carl Drega's footsteps more often. Unfortunately, enough people are satisfied with bread and circuses, so my viewpoint is not as popular as I expect it to someday be, though it's going more against the state (all levels) every day.

Ahh...yes both have their time and place... But I was thinking more on the lines of intel denial across the board rather than a cam here and there.... for starters.
They are phasing out the buried in the road sensors. There are still a few around here in town but almost are gone.

Be an American and “just say NO” to the gun grabbers when they order this. You’ll live a lot longer.
They don’t care about YOUR lives, LEOs.
They’ll go after people quietly. Maybe they’ll have a warrant, maybe not.
