So Rawles believes that the federales don't game the background check system? I'm not so sure that they don't. In fact, I think they do game it.
I also believe that they game the system....but I've bought and sold a lot of guns over the years to and from private individuals. I'm pretty sure I'm not unique among gun owners.
Admittedly, I've filled out "the form" more than once so they know where at least one gun is.

What is to prevent a gun owner from calling in a tip on their liberal Pain in the A** neighbor and waiting on the feds to SWAT the libs and then be in place behind them to take out the second set of libs and then collect their guns and ammo to arm people on their side, but not paying attention?
I’m certain they try to keep track through the background check system, which is why we must never let them make private sales illegal.

Mostly opaque? Only in a very few hyper-vigilant cases. Those who buy an 80% on the Internet or who buy in one swoop everything but the receiver will be assumed to have one of those home builds. There is no proof, but close enough. It would be prudent for those who would resist to keep their "official" firearms separate from their home build and face-to-face purchases, with particular care to keep jackboots from locating the less official weapons.

I suspect it would take years to reach the end, the battle would encompass all aspects of the social wars and of redistribution/reparations, and the number of casualties would be tens of millions, not mere thousands.

It will do you no good to keep the weapons separate. When they come for the weapons it will be because they are already illegal to have.
They will take what they find and you as well.....to the camps with you!
No it's game on when they start busting down doors. It will be unlikely that you will be the first with a SWAT team on your stoop but unless you take action they will eventually get to you.
Might as well go down fighting on your own terms. Don't wait for them to come to you. You go to them.....in the dark of night. We know who they are and where they live and work.
While I tend to agree with you, it would also depend on who those first casualties are.
I don't think so. The thug class sees those casualties, even among their leadership, as promotion opportunities. It's Game of Thrones, the Russian Revolution, and the War of the Roses - petty tyrant wannabes fighting for power and seeing each death above them as bringing them one step closer to the big prize.
In the eventuality outlined above, one of the first casualties should be those cameras.
