The U.S. Air Force lost a box of grenade rounds in northwest North Dakota that fell off a Humvee earlier this month, and now is seeking the publics help in locating the explosives.
A 91st Missile Wing Security Forces team from the Minot Air Force Base lost the ammunition container on May 1 while traveling between missile sites in Mountrail County, according to a news release the Air Force issued late Friday.
The team was traveling on rough gravel roads about four miles west of Parshall when the back hatch of the vehicle opened, and an ammunition container fell out, the Air Force said.
The ammunition is considered safe as long as the container is intact, said Lt. Col. Jamie Humphries, a spokesman for the Minot Air Force Base. However, damage to the container or its contents could lead to an explosion or injury, he said.
If the ammunition is located and is damaged, the area should be evacuated and people should call 911 or the Minot Munitions Reporting Hotline at 701-723-7909.
The missing ammunition is a belt of grenade rounds, contained in a green metal ammo container, that is meant for use with an MK19 machine gun grenade launcher, the Mountrail County Sheriffs Office said Friday afternoon. The ammunition will not operate in any other launching device.

Why not Minot?
Freezin’ the reason!
I sure hope they get them back intact and not thrown back with the pins pulled!
I’d guess that the grenades will be delivered at the right time for maximum effect.
Shemya’s not bad. I was told by the first sergeant there’s a woman behind every tree.
Rotsa Ruck.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I love that joke...:)
I think at heart, all men are boys in many respects...I could easily see me and some friends out in the sticks...
“Hey! If we put a round in this thing, and get way over there and shoot it...”
“Let’s put it on those rocks way down there, and drop big rocks on top of it!”
And so on...:)
Depends on what They mean by "operate", I suppose.
My thought - give the team some left over World War II K Rations and canteens, and tell them to walk from one end of the route to the other, then back and forth, and call in when they find the missing box.
“...seeking the publics help in locating the explosives.”
OMG, LOLOLOL! Never mind the potential fatalities, but please find those pesky grenades!
heehee ping
Who needs tannerite when you can have 40mm grenades to blow up!
Midway is closed. Does the USAF still have a base in Thule, Greenland?
Yes!Thule is part of the ballistic missile early warning system.(BMEWS)for short.
I served there during the 1970s.
Just remember - you need to use your lathe or drill press to spin them up good.
Anymore I doubt that they accidentally fell off.
Silly Air Force. They don’t need to be handling small arms, much less grenades.
Nah, they weren’t lost. They were missing!
[for those that didn’t know, the AF accidentally loaded several live nukes on an airplane instead of training dummies and flew them from ND to Barksdale. It was a couple days before anyone knew they were missing.]

Tech Sergeant: “Airman. Go clean up that pile of garbage over there on the apron.”
Airman: “All right, Nathan.”
***5 Minutes Later***
Airman: “Nate, you’re not going to believe this....”
