The U.S. Air Force lost a box of grenade rounds in northwest North Dakota that fell off a Humvee earlier this month, and now is seeking the publics help in locating the explosives.
A 91st Missile Wing Security Forces team from the Minot Air Force Base lost the ammunition container on May 1 while traveling between missile sites in Mountrail County, according to a news release the Air Force issued late Friday.
The team was traveling on rough gravel roads about four miles west of Parshall when the back hatch of the vehicle opened, and an ammunition container fell out, the Air Force said.
The ammunition is considered safe as long as the container is intact, said Lt. Col. Jamie Humphries, a spokesman for the Minot Air Force Base. However, damage to the container or its contents could lead to an explosion or injury, he said.
If the ammunition is located and is damaged, the area should be evacuated and people should call 911 or the Minot Munitions Reporting Hotline at 701-723-7909.
The missing ammunition is a belt of grenade rounds, contained in a green metal ammo container, that is meant for use with an MK19 machine gun grenade launcher, the Mountrail County Sheriffs Office said Friday afternoon. The ammunition will not operate in any other launching device.

I hate when I lose a box of grenade rounds.
Is “fell off a Humvee” the same as “it fell off a truck”.
They bounce that stuff off tailgates all the time.
Usually in restricted areas.
I would imagine so.
LOL!
Armed by the force of launch and # of rotations...
Like bouncing off a truck? LOL
Shemya, good call!
And I know guys that volunteered LOL
They do have a bowling alley in Shemya, good fishing and its daylight when the bar closes.
Plus you can see Sarah Palins house from there..
The Corps of Engineers site engineer claimed to have identified 48 or so to the 54 wildflowers native to Shemya in the mid 70s. I was there for a few weeks in April. Didn’t identify any wildflowers.
Alass poor Yorick to have or not to have? That is the question. Gotta love the to have.
I cannot afford to operate one.
Hopefully the guy mowing the ditches doesn’t find them the hard way.
As an aside, years ago, we picked up hundreds of oil field shaped charges and blasting caps spilled out all over an interstate highway after someone forgot to latch the trailer door.
Back in 1980 a new Captain I knew was ending his four-year tour on Missile Combat Crew and wanted out of missiles entirely. Back then the AF didn't give missileers much room for leaving the field so he took whatever he could get and became the Transportation Officer at Shemya. I saw him again in 1983 and he was happy and the Chief of Safety for a large MAC base down south.
He not only made it out of missiles but retired as a LtCol, and he did it by volunteering for duty at Shemya.
The convoy commander in that trip has no future in the military now. Likely his NCOIC, Sergeant in charge, as well.
No fuse, they explode on impact.
Midway is closed. Does the USAF still have a base in Thule, Greenland?
Ping
And it is a SAC base so we know how demanding they
are. They’ll probably get busted and spend their careers humping priority C aircraft.
Thule Greenland.
“I assume these grenades are shipped unarmed, but arm or fuse themselves in flight, after the propellant is ignited?? Does anyone know for sure?”
Spin to arm after leaving barrel.
