Feds tapped Trump lawyer Michael Cohen's phones

Federal investigators have wiretapped the phone lines of Michael Cohen, the longtime personal lawyer for President Donald Trump who is under investigation for a payment he made to an adult film star who alleged she had an affair with Trump, according to two people with knowledge of the legal proceedings involving Cohen.

It is not clear how long the wiretap has been authorized, but NBC News has learned it was in place in the weeks leading up to the raids on Cohen's offices, hotel room, and home in early April, according to one person with direct knowledge.

At least one phone call between a phone line associated with Cohen and the White House was intercepted, the person said.

Previously, federal prosecutors in New York have said in court filings that they have conducted covert searches on multiple e-mail accounts maintained by Cohen.

I’m not even sure Trump has us, because we are not making ourselves heard in ways that will have an impact.

Exactly right! Having integrity and honor means doing what is right in spite of the consequences to one’s self.

If there was an ounce of honor in that agency, where are the whistle blowers?

I do not care if Cohen did or didn’t pay the woman and if he did, I don’t care why. I like what POTUS is doing for the country so they can scream Stormy Daniels until they are blue in the face about it and it won’t affect my support.

How is this legal?

So he paid off a porn star. Did they tap her phone because she was extorting Trump?

The so-called GOP leaders are all in favor of the witch hunt.

Amen. So far as I’m concerned the average FBI agent cares far more about his pension than about his country or his sworn duty.

It was under the auspices of a democratic investigation so it was OK.

Everyone just needs to review the “laws don’t apply to liberals” section of the USC.

That doesn't seem right. How can he hide his crimes if his phones are tapped? Cohen has one client, like Tom Hagen.

IMHO President Trump is quite well aware of his phones being “tapped”. I doubt there would be much on them. Remember his conversations with the President of Mexico and Australia being released to the media.

1. Complete seizing of all material.
2. Initial refusal to use “special master”
3. Immediate leaks and in-court announcement of other clients’ identities and info.
4. Tap on the phones, which according to this article captured at least one call with the white house.

This might be the approach to a raid on an accountant, but not on a lawyer. There is supposed to be protection around the attorney-client privilege, but here it is being treated as if this were a simple subordinate role, in which no long established protections exist.

If I am incorrect or overstate the case, please feel free to present your argument. I am not a lawyer, so I may misunderstand more than a little about the law an its sometimes very loose relationship to justice.

"Rush has spent better part of today’s program discussing fact that the Deep State is trying to destroy anyone supporting Trump so that no outsider will consider running or supporting an outside candidate."

And if they succeed we will meet each other in person in there Gulag's they set up for us, never mind an outside candidate...

You don’t have to be a lawyer to know what the Deep State is doing is illegal/unconstitutional. I wouldn’t doubt at all if White House phones are wiretapped along with all home and cell phones of anyone close to Trump.

Legality does not matter in an impeachment proceeding, it is not a court of law. Trump will not get to exclude evidence obtained illegally. It would not matter anyway because it will already be out in public. All they need is something to impeach Trump on, the repubs will have just enough members go along with it to see it done.

What I find sad is Trump is actually doing some REAL good, not just for our country, but the world. We’ve had some really bad presidents historically, so I have been impressed with some of the stuff Trump has been making progress on. But this is all about people being bitter Clinton lost. The things that have gone on at the point just look outrageous to me.

They’re just keeping the ‘pressure’ on Trump because that’s the tool they’re using to get the public sick and tired of dealing with him sufficient that he will either not run again or the public will not vote for him again or both.

Further it ties everyone up covering attorney fees etc so nothing gets done.
