Federal investigators have wiretapped the phone lines of Michael Cohen, the longtime personal lawyer for President Donald Trump who is under investigation for a payment he made to an adult film star who alleged she had an affair with Trump, according to two people with knowledge of the legal proceedings involving Cohen.
It is not clear how long the wiretap has been authorized, but NBC News has learned it was in place in the weeks leading up to the raids on Cohen's offices, hotel room, and home in early April, according to one person with direct knowledge.
At least one phone call between a phone line associated with Cohen and the White House was intercepted, the person said.
Previously, federal prosecutors in New York have said in court filings that they have conducted covert searches on multiple e-mail accounts maintained by Cohen.

I would not at all be surprised if they also had warrants to tap the communications devices of people like Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller.
This enormous investigative operation by the Special Counsel and the dozens of FBI agents assigned to it is in large part a giant oppo intel operation on behalf of the Washington establishment against everyone involved in the Trump campaign.
The lawyers in the Special Counsel’s office by and large are strong Democrat partisans, and will likely have careers going forward that intersect between law enforcement and the Democrat party.
They are learning about everything and anything having to do with who did what within the 50-state operation that got Donald Trump elected president.
With modern database tools and the ability to handle huge volumes of information, this Special Counsel investigation will give the Democrats tremendous opportunities to obtain payback in the future on all people great and small who contributed to the Trump win and will be an advantage to them in running against Trump in 2020, knowing every little thing about what his campaign did in 2016 that turned out to successfully achieve victory, assuming they don’t manage to remove him from office before that.

There may be many exceptions, but I am unaware of any blanket exceptions - and the manner in which all of this is transpiring requires that there be an assumption of NO privilege existing.

Yes. That’s absolute bullshit. Even if the rank-and-file aren’t corrupt, they’re IMPLICITLY corrupt because they’re not exposing the obscene misbehavior of their higher-ups. And if that means they get fired or have to quit their jobs - so be it. That’s what integrity is about.
