PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Two black men arrested for sitting at a Philadelphia Starbucks without ordering anything settled with the city Wednesday for a symbolic $1 each and a promise from officials to set up a $200,000 program for young entrepreneurs.

The men and their lawyer told The Associated Press the settlement was an effort to make sure something positive came out of the incident. "We thought long and hard about it and we feel like this is the best way to see that change that we want to see," said Donte Robinson, one of those arrested.

“....set up a $200,000 program for young entrepreneurs.”

What are the odds of a white "young entrepreneurs" getting into the program?

"...two Starbucks customers..."

These two guys will have bigger bank accounts after this whole thing is done compared to three months ago.

the offending company

The settlement was with the City. Not Starbucks.

Even so, the posters here are being petty with the comments. I suspect Starbucks will have a similar settlement. Would even be a great idea for them to finance a franchise for the two to run if they’d like.

Would be a win-win for all.

So the two men should be given a frillion dollars of start-up cash because they opted to trespass and not behave reasonably?
What about the innocent store manager that was insulted, called racist, and fired simply for protecting the store from loiterers?
Rest assured, these two guys will be driving very nice luxury cars inside the next few months.

Enterprising young men, aren’t they? What an easy way to get a very big paycheck.

Take some decaf tomorrow.

You open a Starbucks as company-owned, with the two of them as co-managers. You develop an ownership path based on meeting three years of mutually agreed performance statistics in revenue, profit, etc. If they reach it they vest 33% per year for three more years to full ownership.

They could even re-hire the fired boss to work for them and if they write good performance reviews the old boss could get their old position back at another location.

Would be a great ending.

Maybe not for you though. You’d rather just be angry forever.

I STILL have never heard exactly how long they sat there without buying anything. Was it 30 mins or 4 hours? What?

It’s Philadelphia, not Boca Raton. Why does EVERYTHING need to be one race versus the other? Are you against school vouchers because most of that will go to inner city minority kids?

Does this mean that all the hipsters and yuppies will be supplanted by real urbanites?

Starbucks MARKETED itself for over a decade as the second business address for entrepreneurs and home-based businesses. I used to hang out there at times without buying anything for quite a long time here in Boca. No one EVER asked me about it. An hour later I might have finally bought something like tea. THEY positioned themselves this way!

Decaf? Anger? What is with the ad hominem insults?
The two men were not in a private club, they were in a business serving paying customers.
Why should their inappropriate behavior be rewarded by giving them their own coffee franchise for nothing?

if the men had been white, and the owners were black, would the white men be getting $200,000 for not ordering anything?

No, and any "outrage" would be derisively mocked by the media as "white privilege."

The whole thing is a total farce.

If I were dying of thirst and all I could do is get a drink from Starbucks...I would want my buddies, Bob, Dom, Thom, Joe, Stevie and Ron as my pall bearers.

I just told you that I DID the SAME EXACT THING they were arrested for here in Boca and no one EVER asked me to leave or buy something.

And ALSO told you that Starbucks MARKETED itself as a place that you COULD hang out at!

I guess you NEVER stopped at a fast food joint or gas station while on a long drive and hopped into the bathroom without buying anything? I certainly have.

Arrest me! Put me in Freeper Purgatory! Oh, the Horror!
