Following the alleged Israeli airstrikes in Syria last night, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said his country is more committed than ever to eradicating terrorists from his country.
Meanwhile, an official in an alliance that includes Syria and its regional allies told the New York Times that Iran will likely attack Israel after the Lebanese parliamentary election in May.

It took them a while to figure out this “love thy neighbor” stuff, but they eventually got there, at least regarding their close neighbors.

Why would it be dumb? The US is a staunch ally of Saudi Arabia. And yet the mullahs are shooting ballistic missiles at Saudi cities via their Yemeni proxies. The Houthis can barely arm themselves, let alone gin up ballistic missiles. The Iranians will ante up until they get smacked upside the head. That means missiles raining down on cities and military bases in Iran proper. It's May 6th. It's evening in the Middle East. Where's the attack by Iran on Israel?

Deterrence is a beautiful thing, reinforced by both the destruction of assets capable of conducting the attacks and warnings that any such attacks will be met in kind in the country supplying the weaponry, not its proxies. This might be ancient history to you, but the Israelis are presumably looking to avoid a repeat of the following, but now with ballistic missiles (which are far bigger, at thousands of lbs vs the typical 50 lb rocket), from Syria:

It’s the same way that the Israeli assassinations of Imad Mugniyeh and Ahmed Yassin reminded the top leadership of regional terrorist groups that they need to avoid crossing the line.
