The Supreme Court on Monday announced Justice Sonia Sotomayor will undergo shoulder-replacement surgery.
Sotomayor, 63, injured her shoulder when she fell at her home earlier this month.
The court's public information office said in a press release that "tests revealed she suffered a multipart displaced head splitting fracture of her proximal humerus," and that further consultation with specialists indicated surgery was needed. The court said she will undergo reverse total shoulder replacement on Tuesday morning and will curtail activities for the next few weeks while she recuperates.
She will wear a sling for several weeks and will undergo physical therapy for several months, the Supreme Court said. She is expected to recover full mobility and shoulder function.

Let’s hope for a general anesthetic issue! She is an anti-American Obama placement.

They make this seem routine. However, her type 1 diabetes will make the recovery difficult. Recent low blood sugar and her fall (diabetes related) means she might beat Kennedy out the door.
...
I wonder if she also has osteoporosis.

I was wondering what a reverse total shoulder replacement is, so I looked it up and found this, from Tuckahoe Orthopedics -
The name of this procedure is descriptive to the device. With traditional total shoulder replacement, the ball and socket of the joint are replaced. Reverse total shoulder replacement replaces the ball and socket but reverses the ball and socket orientation. Remember, this is a procedure done because the rotator cuff is not functioning. By reversing the ball and socket, we can mechanically fool the shoulder which allows for improved function and pain control. After reading the entire article from which I drew the above quote, I can easily foresee one or two of these in my future...

I wonder if she also has osteoporosis.
The two are linked, hopefully, she will retire for the sake of her recovery.

Good point. It may be "routine surgery" for a relatively young person in normal, good health, but no surgery is routine for someone her age with her chronic ailments.

No, and if you mean what you imply, you aren’t either.
So.
Let’s pray for complications in surgery that render her unable to effect her tyrannical, American-hating ideology.

I had a couple surgeries on my shoulder.
Freakin hell the pain was never ending and got worse every time I did something perfunctory like clean a bathroom, which could throw me in bed for 3 days at a time.....
3 operations and 4 years later....I can use my arm with mostly no problems, so Iong as I don’t attempt to open a bottle of ketchup, since I now have the grip of a newborn....

The “wise latina” is a radical progressive judicial hack, but shoulder surgery is awful. I wish her best wishes and a speedy recovery.
