... The mounting price tag of extreme weather events and the prospect of greater destruction to come have brought into focus a question that has been lurking at the edges of climate change conversations: Who should pay the costs of the death and destruction caused by human-driven global warming?
The debate over climate accountability is not new.
The Bali Action Plan established the idea - at least in theory - that the rich countries that have built their wealth by burning fossil fuels should help the poorer nations that are suffering disproportionate harms from a distorted atmosphere.
"Climate change reparations" is the shorthand for this claimreparations meaning, basically, "a rectification of past and ongoing harms." A plainer word would be justice. But justice is elusive, difficult to calculate, and often impossible to enforce. The notion of climate reparations, also referred to as "climate restitution," has proved radioactive within international climate change talks, as richer nations resist acknowledging the responsibilities they may hold.
The mounting price tag of extreme weather events and the prospect of greater destruction to come have brought into focus a question that has been lurking at the edges of climate change conversations.
The demand for climate change reparationsthat is to say, some redress for climate change's recent past, present, and likely future damagesis the base minimum required for any accounting of a crime as insidious as the profit-driven alteration of Earth's atmosphere.
The urgency of this attempt cannot be overstated. This effort to apportion responsibility is in a race against time and the implacable physics of Earth's vast systems. The longer the Carbon Barons are able to delay justice, the sooner a worse judgment will come for all of us, the innocent as well as the guilty.

climate change card + victim card + self pity card + blame game = excuse for parasites to gain the unearned, the undeserved, and something for nothing
Not to mention the open pit metals mining for electric car batteries
When they admit that immigration, legal and illegal, has been the biggest driving force of population growth - and has been the biggest contributor to environmental concerns and poorly planned growth, then they can be considered honest to their cause and not politically driven.
Plain or with ketchup?
Yes...It's been all about transferring wealth from industrialized nations to third world countries since the term "global warming" was initially coined.
It always has been.
That was the purpose of the Carbon Credit fiasco of the Paris Accords.
That was the purpose of manipulating data to come up with "Global Warming"
I want reparations for being accused of every crime in the book.
The Sierra Club should pay.
If we pay restitution does that mean we don’t have to help them after the next natural disaster? I’m betting they want to take our money and still expect America to pay the bill for clean up and rebuilding.
Sierra Club owes us all money.
“The debate over climate accountability is not new.”
Last I heard, they claimed the debate is over and they won.
How about justice and restitution for the millions that have suffered under socialist, communist and liberal governments?
But, but, the growing seasons have been longer, so there’s more food and less starvation, and volcano effects are mitigated and, and......
(Do I even need to add a /s?)
Who are they gonna’ bill when the next period of glaciation (due any time now, from a geologic time perspective) occurs?
WHITE PEOPLE REPARATIONS
White Americans deserve reparations for the discrimination and loss of opportunity due to overt racist policies such as
Affirmative Action, racial preferences, and racial set-asides by the federal and state governments themselves as well as
the same racist policies approved and mandated by government carried out by universities, businesses and other entities.
I think you would have done better to base it on loss of property, life, health and safety due to the rampant criminality of said group.
This guys analysis is, overall, juvenile in its approach. He bangs on and on about the “barons” and how we will squeeze reparations from them. He means the “oil majors”, Exxon/Mobil, Shell, BP, Texaco and so on, without realizing that they are almost bit-players in worldwide production and distribution. The heayweights are the national oil production companies, Aramco, Sinopec, CNOC, Petrobras, PDVSA and the rest. Ironically, they’re the less efficient players too, since they’re unconstrained by P&L anxieties, so care less about waste in their processing. The three top national actors out produce all the US/European majors combined. Go shake them down.
Are you referring to the group of malcontents who want to turn Law Enforcement Officers into "Dead Cops" and "Pigs In A Blanket"?
A report recently released by Congress revealed that the Sierra Club has been hijacked by russians via bots and money.
If there were anything to this “man caused climate change” this might hold some merit.
Don’t forget - since all white people are responsible, collectively, for any wrong ever done by any individual white person to any black person, ever, it therefore follows that all black people are responsible, collectively, for any wrong done by any individual black person to any white person, ever.
Start counting.
