WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican leaders in the U.S. Congress are moving forward with a plan to vote before the 2018 midterm elections on a bill to make permanent the temporary individual tax cuts in their recent tax overhaul.
It is not yet clear, however, if the plan would pick up support from Democrats, whose votes would be needed to pass legislation in the Senate.
The Republican tax law, approved in December without Democratic support, permanently cut the top corporate rate to 21 percent from 35 percent and created a permanent deduction for pass-through businesses. It created lower rates and new credits for individuals, but those expire at the end of 2025.
Democrats have said the tax code rewrite favors businesses and the wealthy, and that working-class taxpayers will see little benefit in their paychecks.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said last week that the tax bill, as written, is projected to add $1.9 trillion to the national debt over the next decade.
We fully intend to make these things permanent, and thats something well be acting on later this year, House Speaker Paul Ryan told reporters on Tuesday, referring to the individual rates.

Democrats will never allow anyone to take their hands from less of your paycheck. Your money must be redistributed.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz was on Miami “news” YESTERDAY complaining that in FIVE YEARS the income tax rates go back up. Well, election rigging Deb, here is your chance to change that situation.
Let’s see how you care about your middle class constituents.
Will Democrats vote to make tax cuts permanent?
Don’t count on it. Even though they know its an issue on which they’ve been hammered badly.
Thanks ChicagoConservative27.

Every day these people reveal more and more of whom they really are. I just wish that the Pubbies would stop helping them to cover those facts up near election time. Pick that rock up, Pubbies, and let’s see the roaches scurry away from the light.
There is never a tax cut Democrats like.
Well here is an opportunity for the GOP to get Democrats to come up with one for which they will vote.
Like last time, it won’t happen - and they’ll scream at Republicans for tricking them into voting against tax cuts.
Same script with them every time.
McConnell needs to go, plain and simple. He thinks he’s some kind of curator for the museum that was once the U.S. Senate.
I have full confidence the Republicans can screw this up.
NOTHING about taxes is EVER PERMANENT and that is one of the main problems about taxes that makes the trend for both taxes and spending to go UP.
