Starbucks is planning to follow up on its CEOs promise to implement unconscious bias training by closing more than 8,000 company-owned stores across the U.S. on May 29 to conduct racial bias training, per a Starbucks news release.
Ive spent the last few days in Philadelphia with my leadership team listening to the community, learning what we did wrong and the steps we need to take to fix it, said Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson in the statement.
While this is not limited to Starbucks, were committed to being a part of the solution. Closing our stores for racial bias training is just one step in a journey that requires dedication from every level of our company and partnerships in our local communities.
Company-owned retail stores, as well as corporate offices, will close for the afternoon of Tuesday, May 29 for employees to undergo training designed to address implicit bias, promote conscious inclusion, and deal with discrimination issues, the news release confirms.
The training measures will reportedly be designed by Bryan Stevenson of the Equal Justice Initiative, Sherrilyn Ifill of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Heather McGhee of Demos and Jonathan Greenblatt of the Anti-Defamation League, as well as former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. Moving forward, this curriculum will become part of routine training for all new Starbucks hires, the company says.
Starbucks-licensed outlets, such as those found in colleges or supermarkets, or inside other retail outlets, are not included among the 8,000-plus company-owned stores confirmed to be closing in Starbucks announcement, and not required to close. A spokesperson for Fox News has confirmed that the curriculum will be available to those outlets, and licensed stores will be encouraged to participate in the training.

So they will do sensitivity training, give money to the United negro college fund and/or historic black universities, pledge to open more stores in black neighborhoods, and then all is forgiven. Maybe even give some to people like Sharpton and Jackson.
Dumb, dumb and dumber.
Waiting 6 weeks to prepare ?
Really urgent.
What’s star bucks? Inter galactic money?
I hope they stress my white privilege is every bit as important as black lives matter.
Rush used to say “this is too easy” when he started to jokingly comment on liberal silliness (as the twin brothers who supposedly now deserved sympathy because after they murdered their own parents the young men were now orphans!)
Sadly, universities already push anti- white male indoctrination sessions to re-educate students who have unconscious microagression tendencies and do things like work hard (a white trait that embarrasses persons of color on campus) and get good grades ( sign of profiting from white privilege).
As a staff member I passed such a test with a 100% score on such things as when is a given action or word insulting to muslim students. By the way “Everyone is equal and should be treated the same” is now a racist statement (it implies we won’t grant special privileges and rights for persons of color).
Corporate political re-education and brainwashing.
I guess we are there already. Just not the 1984 scenario everyone expected.
The flip side of “white privilege” is “black entitlement”
My Keurig takes care of all my coffee needs. I can get any coffee I want and for the price of one of their coffees, i can get a can or bag of good coffee that lasts me a few weeks.
Dramatic statement aimed directly at Black Americans.
Two words: Dunkin’ Donuts.
DD’s coffee is far better and sans the virtue-signaling baggage of Tarbucks.
It would be cool if during that one day, millions of people discovered a place with better and cheaper coffee that they prefer,(or have a sudden attack of common sense) and Starbucks never recovers.
Not the coffee but all the capp, latte, frapp nonsense they sell. Some commercials even make fun of them and their millenial fanbase by showing some snowflake ordering a super double half caff soy milk frapp with double whip. I rarely go cause all I drink is coffee and there are chwaper and better places to get a cuppa joe. But I may go thwre to hang out and use the wifi now that I dont have to buy anything. Maybe I will bring my 711 coffee with me
Good news, you don’t have to buy anything and can spend all day there, if not married you can check out the “baristas”.
If married, you can check out the baristas.
Not one open? I’ll travel anywhere. I’ve got have my coffee!
Certainly there are some in da’ hood where black employees must be exempt as they wouldn’t need such training.
Oh, wait. There’s a Brew You just up the street....
I presume that White Starbucks employees will now spend their time apologizing for being White.
Good news for Dutch Bros., Caribou Coffee, and all of the rest.
I will never venture into another Starbucks.
Too bad it’s not a permanent closure.
