So what exactly are the objectives? Same as in Libya and Egypt? Topple the current government ,walk away and wonder why that part of the world is soo messed up?

I’m not happy about the attack either. This to me was deep state propoganda. That being said, this is how you draw a line. Trump has shown an eagerness to stay out of the conflict only to react when chemical weapons are used. The message is absolutely clear, if you want the U.S to stay out get rid of all the chemical weapons whether they are yours or not. Apart of the calculus will always be an American response. If Assad sees that someone (even if not his regime) will use chemicals he has an absolute reason to make sure it doesn’t happen. Again, disappointed in this but at least there is a clear policy.
McCain’s busy ducking dirty dossier questions and/or a subpoena.
Enforcing the ban on chemical weapons is different from trying to micro-manage the Middle East.
McCain is afraid of Trump. So because Trump was able to show he could wield and have orders obeyed, orders which could then translate to put the swamp to his boot, McLame now wants a piece of the leasership like a armschair general, trying to edge his goading Trump in war so as Trump not gain more power.

Our strategy for the entire reason is, get the hell out and stay out. No more endless Middle East wars. If the people in that region want to kill each other, let them do it, and that goes for ever single country over there. None of the people in that region are worth a single American life.
