Blasts were reported in Damascus, Syria, just minutes after President Trump announced that he would be launching an attack in retaliation for last week's chemical attack by Bashar al-Assad on his own citizens.
Unverified videos appear to show the attack as it happened, with Tomahawk missiles lighting up the sky over the Syrian capital.
President Trump said in a speech from the White House that he "ordered the United States Armed Forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. A combined operation with the armed forces of France and the United Kingdom is now underway."
The U.S. is conducting precision air strikes with B1 bombers, and at least two structures have been hit, according to reports, including a scientific research facility that may have been a site where chemical weapons are produced.
The AP reported: "Syrias capital has been rocked by loud explosions that lit up the sky with heavy smoke as U.S. President Donald Trump announced airstrikes in retaliation for the countrys alleged use of chemical weapons."
AP reporters in Damascus saw smoke rising from the east side of Damascus. "Syrian state TV says the attack has begun on the capital, though it wasnt immediately clear what was targeted," the AP wrote.
Reuters is reporting that, according to a witness, several explosions have been heard in Damascus, with smoke rising on the east side of the city.
Syrian state TV claims that Syrian forces launched a counterattack and that 13 Tomahawk missiles were shot down by Syrian forces, although that information has not been verified.

And that former major general who was bloviating without any intel was a real asshole too.
Many thanks.
When is Trump going to announce attacks on ‘Monster’ Erdogan?
Same with Libya but we turned that place into shit. Reverse Midas touch.
“Russia is not going to war with the U.S. over us hitting three targets.”
I hope you’re right.
The Twitter universe does not have the information that Trump and Mattis have.
That is why we dont use Twitter to conduct foreign policy.
Trump is not a simpleton.
...
I agree. It’s clear to me that Trump doesn’t like foreign wars. He wouldn’t do this unless it was the only option.
FR is filled with fair weather Trump supporters.
Same predictable posters with their same predictable posts....
Trump was not POTUS then. It’s an entirely different view when your tasked with being the CnC of the most powerful nation in the world.
You also noticed that there is a lot of anti-Trumpers posting tonight.
Sure seems that way.
This article states:
Blasts were reported in Damascus, Syria, just minutes after President Trump announced that he would be launching an attack in retaliation for last week’s chemical attack by Bashar al-Assad on his own citizens.
“...minutes AFTER...” [his announcement]???
Shouldn’t his statement come AFTER the bombing starts?
Yes, chem storage facilities should be leaking chemical WMDs, I agree with you, so what was hit? Empty facilities?
then you should stfu when your campaigning and don’t know what you’re talking about.

So, it’s Trump’s fault Obama got us involved?
That’s an interesting way of thinking.
Wait. Shouldn’t, then, Obama be blamed for Trump taking military action to get us out?
I’m not acquainted with this logic you use. I’d like to learn more.
Gee, ya’ think?
It’s like clockwork, huh?
Take your own advice.
if you want to make up my position then do it by ourself. Make up my comment, then put your response and keep responding to yourself. Nice work.

Good point. And you can add Iran to that list. The Shah was a very bad man, the media told us. A despot. And he probably was.
So we forced him out. Goodbye, evil Shah! And now Iran is worse, much worse. Reverse Midas touch, yes indeed.
