“This is negotiation at gunpoint.” Seems best way, don’t you think? Russia has already blinked, maybe helping find a solution.

Zackly, I would bet that’s typical traffic status over Syria at any given time. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Seems like the only way.
All this piddling around going on there is just asking for trouble.
It’s near enough to an end to this stupid civil war to settle things.

The Saudi/Gulf States pipeline is the real reason why we are being used to get rid of Assad. That pipeline would compete with the existing Russian pipeline that supplies a large percentage of Europe's gas - a large enough percentage of their energy needs that Russia is able to use the threat of turning off that supply to exert a lot of leverage over their customers' political actions. Russia likes having that leverage and will not give it up easily.

The Iranian pipeline is not going to happen. The Iranians don't have the $$$ or the military muscle to push their pipeline through against our and our Saudi friends combined opposition.

Iranian gas will eventually end up being burned in China.

Interim post war President and First Lady are now safe and sound for future duty, if needed.

My biggest fear of a nuclear exchange is that some damned “continuity of government” plan will actually work, and we’ll emerge from the rubble to find the same idiots reassuring us that the government has survived.

We out to at least get some new leadership outta the deal.

"We will not even secure our own borders. We will not even balance our own budget. The FBI is corrupt. Our congresscritters are corrupt as hell. Our intelligence agencies are spying on Americans. Yet, we are getting involved in another foreign war, and no one attacked us?

...EXACTLY RIGHT, .....and intel from that region is absolutly unreliable, depending on the scumbag CIA/FBI deep state lies about chemical weapons.

and what is the result EVERY time, more instability and waste of patriotic americans ,

for every patriot US soldier killed , we import thousands of ingrate illegal or lottery immigrants . Our politicians are IDIOTS

Either Trump got snookered or his hand is forced by the Military Industrial Complex that is protecting him from assassination

none of these wars makes any sense but they ALL do it

Trump should ask for a declaration of war and full war powers, then use it to imprison all Anti-Americans for the duration. All Moslims interned like the Japanese in WW II. Military to border—mine the border to keep out terrorists. Draft all the snowflakes silence anti-American speech.

This is not our war BUT...isolationism, pre-1941 taught us that eventually, trouble comes to our shores, (see 11 September 2001) like it or not. That does not mean we have to intervene in every struggle. It does mean that 8 years of Obamian ignoring realty is now beginning to directly threaten our interests.

Silence anti-American speech? You must be a big fan of Woodrow Wilson. It’s funny watching so many people wishing for the childlike existence of living under a dictator. Like when they wish for an American Pinochet.

Our troops should be in Mexico instead routing out the cartels.

It wasn’t Obama ignoring reality. And the trouble didn’t just randomly come to our shores.

Obama and the CIA/State/USAID created, funded, supplied, and trained ISIS. Then our intel agencies starting at least with Bush rolled out the red carpet for camel jockeys and moslem brotherhood types to flood into the Government at all levels.

It wasn’t some benign thing that created ISIS or the trouble in Syria. It WAS our involvement that created this monster. Now Fedzilla says it needs to protect us from its own creation.

And GOP hands are just as dirty between Bush, McCain, Graham, Rubio, and several others.

He trained as an eye doctor. His older brother was supposed to inherit command from their father, but he died in a car crash, IIRC, so Beaker got the job instead.

Yeah, why don’t we go into f’n Mexico and take back the flag
====================================

Because that would be too "America First". Remember that? Remember, "build the wall!", deport the illegals and "lock her up!" I do and I will in November and in 2020. I'm not saying I'll vote D, but my car might not start on election day and I might not be able to get to the polls on time.

I'm tired of empty campaign promises and I'm tired of all these wars.

Because the world in 1925 said no to chemical weapons. Obama drew a line in sand and ignored, Trump criticized and said he and all civilized countries would not ignore. He is following throug with that commitment now, just as he did last year. Russians already blinked and pulled their Navy out of harms way. Figure at this point only way to stop is for Assad to quit Syria.

Holy crap, we actually have 3 or 4 FReepers who "get it". Great, succinct explanation, BTW!

That said, what if Assad executes some "rogue general" (assuming we have no intel actually tying him directly to the gas attack)?
