Syria war: Trump says missiles 'will be coming'
BBC ^ | 04/11/18

Posted on 04/11/2018 8:19:36 AM PDT by Simon Green

US President Donald Trump has tweeted that Russia should "get ready" for missiles to be fired at its ally Syria, in response to an alleged chemical attack near Damascus on Saturday.

"Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and 'smart!'" Mr Trump said in his tweet.

Senior Russian figures have threatened to meet any US strikes with a response.

President Bashar al-Assad's government denies mounting a chemical attack on the rebel-held town of Douma.

In one his tweets on Wednesday, Mr Trump called the Syrian leader a "gas killing animal".

In another, he painted a dark picture of US-Russia relations but said it did not have to be that way.

The US, UK and France have agreed to work together and are believed to be preparing for a military strike in response to the alleged chemical attack at the weekend.

If you’re a President Trump supporter

and

you’re on the same side as Democrats, the establishment left, the legacy media and the deep state and when it comes to attacking Syria....probably time to take a long look in the mirror.

Air strikes could mean the “eradication of the regime’s air defense systems,”

meaning ISIS would be back in the game....

Great strategy... Freaking genius!

Orban and the obvious increasing popularity of leaving the EU that's forming in several European countries is no doubt a big concern and a factor in this game to get NATO tied down in Syria.

Also, they probably figure that it'll get Turkey back in line since it pits NATO against Syria rather than just separate nations and they figure it'll lead to the overthrow of Erdogan to keep Turkey on the short NATO leash.

I realize there are a lot of factors but Trump going for the excuses the deep state crowd toss out doesn't fit with anything he said in the campaign or since.

Not holding the terrorists responsible is an absolutely forbidden because there's proof all over the place that the US and Israel created them and have backed them to the hilt.

Too many people know that whatever the jihadist scum do and have done, we as one of their sponsors accessories before and after the fact in all the murder, torture, and use of chemical weapons they've done. Use that was totally ignored while the staged BS is reacted to as if it's a real attack by Syria.

“Why are we telling them this?”

This might be one of those cases where we’ll learn what type of defensive preparations the soviets deploy.

They know its coming so we might as well announce it and see and learn from the tactics the recipients use

My gut tells me that the US and Russia behind the scenes are playing out this piece of Kabuki Theater for public consumption.

At least, that’s my hope.

And please drop the "blood-soaked" histrionics. Our total casualties for 17 years of fighting are less than a bad afternoon in WWI.

Not enough dead for you, eh? NeoCONS never fail to take a bow over the bodies of the dead, however scant. And WOW! on your relatives who served. That puts you in the rarefied air Lindsey Graham.

I still don’t get why the US has a stroke every time some dictator acts like a shit - assuming Syrian involvement is even a fact. There are dictators all over the world treating their people like crap - but we don’t launch missiles on them.

Call me paranoid but I wonder if there have been some veiled threats from the war party - attack Assad or we impeach you.

The vast majority of Third World countries, especially in the Middle East and Africa, are ruled by corrupt and brutal dictators. Usually their brutality is kept under wraps until there's an uprising against them - so none of what's going on now in Syria would have happened if Hillary, Obama, and McCain hadn't egged on the Syrian rebels (most if not all of whom are probably worse than Assad) with talk of the "Arab Spring" and implicit promises of military support.

The bottom line is that the realistic and desirable goal for such countries should be stability, not "democracy" or regime change. Otherwise we'll be sending troops to occupy the majority of Third World countries.

It is strange, isn't it. Trump campaigned on his opposition to the Iraq war and the promise to keep out of the Syrian civil war apart from destroying ISIS (which was the only goal in the conflict that had a direct bearing on our national security). Just a week ago he was saying that we should start withdrawing our troops from Syria.

Today, he's saying things about getting entrenched in the Syrian conflict that could have been scripted by Lindsey Graham or John McCain. Why the about-face? Was it Nikki Haley and John Bolton's power of persuasion? I doubt it - something else is going on. The Deep State is saying "Give us the wars we want, give us the trade deals we want, and give us open borders with Mexico and then maybe we'll have Mueller drop his witch hunt and pretend the whole farce never happened. If you don't, we'll keep it up to the very last day of your Presidency if not longer."

Oh, but the stock answer you get from the neocons is that Trump the CIC has better information that Trump the candidate. Funny how the better information ALWAYS leads to military intervention.

We would be better served taking military action against the neocon scum.

It’s the media age we live in. It’s instantly in our living room and people are instantly motivated to want to “do something”. It used to be a “foreign correspondent” (remember those guys?) would write up a story. Most of them were “stringers” in the old days so they would have to find a newspaper to print it. By the time John Q. “American Citizen” heard or read about it was days old. The emotional impact just wasn’t there compared to now. Everything and I mean everything now is emotion driven. The image on TV decides policy for good or ill. Facts, reasoning are irrelevant.

Trump needs to tie his Neo-con advisors to these cruise-missiles and launch them at sanctuary-cities. The country is tired of endless, unauthorized conflict.

Perfect pretext for Russia invasion of rest of Ukraine. Thanks neo-cons. Ask a vet if they want more war where USA national interest is not at stake.

But I thought all you guys said that no 'neocons' families every served, and that's why they're warmongers?

Don't let the Ron Paul tinfoil commemorative hat fall off, it might expose the empty skull beneath.

Or if they’d be launched. Putin said he’d retaliate if they were launched, but not if they were put in place and not launched. Cuban missile crisis again. Lots of tough talk, but no Armageddon. I’m OK with that.

This move is a mistake. The President should be winding down our involvement in the conflicts of others.
