Election handicappers are shifting Speaker Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) House district toward Democrats after his retirement announcement Wednesday morning.
The Cook Political Report moved Wisconsin's 1st District from a "solid Republican" seat to a "lean Republican" seat based on the news, while Sabato's Crystal Ball out of the University of Virginia shifted the race from "likely Republican" to a toss-up.
No serious Republican candidate had been running against Ryan for the nomination. But now with his impending retirement, Republicans have until the June 1 filing deadline to find another candidate to best Paul Nehlen, a white nationalist who lost handily to Ryan in the 2016 GOP primary.

Well if the Huffington post is against him I consider that a good candidate.
It is a certain Democrat pick up.
It is a certain Democrat pick up.
They don’t call it the Surrender Party for nothing.
Nehlen’s a loser. He cannot win because people do not like him.
“The first district is a swing district that leans Republican.”
Paul Nehlen is NOT the guy for the job, but historically, because little of District 1 is in Milwaukee County, it leans Republican, however 0bama won the district by 2 points in 2008.

However, I say, ‘Bring Back The Free Soil Party!’
Ryan has received $54 million in donations for the 2018 cycle. He will try to choose the GOP candidate for this district.
In 2016 Paul Nehlen was endorsed by Sarah Palin and Laura Ingraham!
Must be the motorcycle. (sarcasm) The bias will never end, because the traitorous Republican Party wants true conservatives defeated.
Ryan is a jackass and a lying tool
This m*********** set us up and didn’t bother to look for a replacement
Headline is deliberately misleading. Going from safe to leans GOP means it has moved to the Dems? Not true. Even if called a toss-up by the Dem stooge Larry Sabato in Virginia, that does not mean it has moved to the Dems.
Given there was disagreement among pollsters of how much the odds had changed for the seat, even a headline that says the seat moves to a toss-up would have been blatantly biased.
He’s not a loser!
He was endorsed by Sarah Palin.
As always impeccable timing
Cook and Sabato are dnc propagandists.
I don’t believe one word they say.
Paul Nehlen is not a white nationalist.
How did I know you were going to say that?
Which is why he’s retiring.
Always believe the propaganda.........
Sorry but that is correct. Im from the district. Unless Republicans put up a STELLAR candidate and pour tons of money into this race, it will be a Dem pick up. Red area but purple state that leans Dem overall. They have wanted this seat for a long Time and this is their shot. They will put their heart, blood and soul into winning it.
Paul, we hardly knew ye.....but it was enough time to loathe the liar and fraud that you are.
