FBI raids the office of Trump lawyer Michael Cohen

The FBI raided the offices of President Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen on Monday.

The raid came after federal prosecutors in New York City obtained a search warrant following a referral from special counsel Robert Mueller, Cohen's lawyer told the New York Times. Mueller is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, and related issues.

NBC News confirmed news of the raid.

The Times reported that FBI agents seized records relating to several issues, including a $130,000 payment Cohen has said he made to porn star Stormy Daniels.

Daniels has said that money was given to her in exchange for her agreement to keep quiet about an affair she had with Trump that began in 2006. The White House has denied that Trump had sex with Daniels, and Trump has said he was unaware of the deal Cohen made with her.

In addition to records related to Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, FBI agents also seized emails, tax documents and business records, according to the Times, which cited a person briefed on the search.

Cohen is an executive vice president and general counsel of the Trump Organization.

It was not immediately clear where the raid occurred. Vanity Fair reported that FBI agents on Monday visited a room at the Lowes Regency Hotel in Manhattan, where Cohen has been staying and executed the warrants.

Cohen's lawyer, Stephen Ryan, said, "Today the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients. I have been advised by federal prosecutors that the New York action is, in part, a referral by the Office of Special Counsel, Robert Mueller."

"The decision by the U.S. Attorney's Office in New York to conduct their investigation using search warrants is completely inappropriate and unnecessary," Ryan said.

"It resulted in the unnecessary seizure of protected attorney client communications between a lawyer and his clients. These government tactics are also wrong because Mr. Cohen has cooperated completely with all government entities, including providing thousands of non-privileged documents to the Congress and sitting for depositions under oath."

Trump's spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told CNBC that the White House has no comment on the raid.

Spokesmen for the FBI's New York field office and for Mueller did not immediately respond to CNBC's requests for comment.

Who is going to raid the offices of the FBI to get all the documents they are stonewalling on turning over to congress?

“Will you stop blaming the President for what Mueller is doing?”

For heavens of course it’s Muellers fault and Sessions and Rosenweasel. IMHO The President must go on offense to survive. One of these bastards must go NOW.

This is way beyond the scope of Mueller’s investigation.

And it won't matter if they find some insignificant meaningless error or oversight. Everyone knows Mueller's investigation is tainted, corrupt and anything but impartial.

Mueller is going nowhere with this and that's why they need to keep it going, because he's got zip zero and it's cost the tax payers tens of millions!

Didn’t some other presidential case get pooh-poohed because “it was just about sex”?

The Stormy Daniels nonsense was dying down too much, they had to dig that corpse up again to take the pressure off of the Deep State Snakes.

the files should be empty.

If there was nothing illegal in the files, then it wont matter.

What is concerning about this is that to get a warrant there must be probable cause for a crime. What crime does the FBI think its investigating now?

Buckle up! Follow the plan. We need to stay in control of the narrative about Obama Administration treason!

This is distraction. Don’t flip out!

The article indicated that a search warrant was obtained. What judge signed off on the search warrant?

No more attorney-client privilege? Why didn’t Ken Starr ever think of that?

“Ignoring attorney client privilege is a hallmark of the contempt for all laws except the ones that benefit them is a hallmark of the methods Weissman and Mueller employ.”

A judge signed off on the search warrants. Another action by the imperial judiciary which ignores the Constitution. Of course the check and balance on the judiciary is the House of Representatives which is supposed to impeach judges who are behaving contrary to the Constitution. Fat chance a GOP Congress will impeach a federal judge, no matter how lawless.

Yep, the powers that be (Deep State) could care less what the sheeple think or feel. They are the real power. They call the shots. They run the show.

Trump’s delays in cleaning house are proving to be catastrophic. As they say, you snooze you lose. Time for tweets is over. If he doesn’t take control of the situation its soon going to be game over.

”Is this asshole accountable to anybody? Does the Constitution mean anything anymore? This farce is either going to be brought to a halt, or there are going to be lots of dead bureaucrats - including Mueller and his gang of Clinton cronies.”

If this sedition continues, there should be an immediate extra-judicial trial, conviction, and sentencing carried out on Mueller’s lawn. If they want to shred the Constitution, then they shouldn’t expect it to protect them either.

If we've learned anything over the past year it's that the Swamp can get warrants for anything, on anybody, and at anytime.

Mueller is absolutely trying to provoke Trump to fire him.

No doubt about it now.
