The FBI raided the offices of President Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen on Monday.
The raid came after federal prosecutors in New York City obtained a search warrant following a referral from special counsel Robert Mueller, Cohen's lawyer told the New York Times. Mueller is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, and related issues.
NBC News confirmed news of the raid.
The Times reported that FBI agents seized records relating to several issues, including a $130,000 payment Cohen has said he made to porn star Stormy Daniels.
Daniels has said that money was given to her in exchange for her agreement to keep quiet about an affair she had with Trump that began in 2006. The White House has denied that Trump had sex with Daniels, and Trump has said he was unaware of the deal Cohen made with her.
In addition to records related to Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, FBI agents also seized emails, tax documents and business records, according to the Times, which cited a person briefed on the search.
Cohen is an executive vice president and general counsel of the Trump Organization.
It was not immediately clear where the raid occurred. Vanity Fair reported that FBI agents on Monday visited a room at the Lowes Regency Hotel in Manhattan, where Cohen has been staying and executed the warrants.
Cohen's lawyer, Stephen Ryan, said, "Today the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients. I have been advised by federal prosecutors that the New York action is, in part, a referral by the Office of Special Counsel, Robert Mueller."
"The decision by the U.S. Attorney's Office in New York to conduct their investigation using search warrants is completely inappropriate and unnecessary," Ryan said.
"It resulted in the unnecessary seizure of protected attorney client communications between a lawyer and his clients. These government tactics are also wrong because Mr. Cohen has cooperated completely with all government entities, including providing thousands of non-privileged documents to the Congress and sitting for depositions under oath."
Trump's spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told CNBC that the White House has no comment on the raid.
Spokesmen for the FBI's New York field office and for Mueller did not immediately respond to CNBC's requests for comment.
Your story has grown tiresome.
Sorry. I like history and biographies. I’m not much in to fantasy and wishful-thinking projections like Trump-worship. Which I assume is happening when some “conservatives” who support Trump prefer. In short, I accept that those who are mesmerized by Trump are willing to put Trump ahead of law and traditional conservatism because they were bamboozled by a celebrity horndog pretending to be a conservative. Well, at least these principled conservatives didn’t waste their vote on pastor or Christian or a person who was a conservative five years ago.
Well, I site facts. I cite have cited over the years Trump’s biography, his mercurial style, his Liberalism of longstanding, his kids Liberalism, his lecherous life style that he documented in his books, and much, much more that is factually true. Slam the Jews if you wish. I’m just citing Trump’s words, behavior, and likely law-breaking. Admittedly, I put conservatism ahead of pretending Trump is above law and our values. Maybe that’s because I was a conservative 40 years before Trump.
Facts as you view them... Lying Ted Cruz is not eligible to hold the office of President per the ‘original intent’ of our Constitution... but that sure did not stop the holier than thou jerks in shoving his lying deceptive BS in our faces... You have no clue what ‘conservatism’ is suppose to be.... God, Family and Country. You would not have the first clue in what God says He ‘hates’. You want the blessing from God then do not dilute His plan with Cuban Canadian citizens. You are no conservative but are delusional.
Is this not your comment/statement? Trump is surrounded by corrupt collusive traitors. And not just a few. In case you missed it, the swamp is deep.
Btw, did everyone, "Get the message" when Trump fired Comey?
1. In case you missed it, the swamp is deep.
No, you missed it. Three (3) days ago (that would be April 9 if you want to look it up) I said the following to you: Back when Trump was elected I posted many comments to the effect of how difficult it was going to be to drain the vast and very deep Swamp. I went so far as to say it was an ocean, not a swamp." I was unmistakebly clear about the Swamp being deep.
2. On the following day (April 10) you made the strange and unsubstantiated comment to me that I get it, you want Trump to fire everyone. Again, you were completely ignoring things that I had said just moments before in a post:
I specifically and clearly said: Trump should have fired a few people by now. Clearly I did not say everyone.
I also said he should start the process of removing a couple of the key obstructors". Again I clearly said a couple. And by the way, Comey is only ONE person; it takes more than one shovel of dirt to dig a hole.
What is it about a few and a couple that you dont understand? How much clearer could I be? I get it: you are locked in to a particular view. But if youre going to have a dialogue with someone you at least owe them the respect of not misquoting them.
There is no sense in having a conversation or debate when one party is not listening. I am happy to have an exchange of ideas and views, and consider the opinions of others, but Im not going to waste time repeating myself.
You keep suggesting the deep state will roll over and everyone will get in line and behave themselves if Trump fires a couple people. You said they'll all get in line after that. But that's already happened and the insiders/deep state, only doubled down.
Did they all get in line after Sally Yates was fired?
Did they all get in line after Comey was fired?
These are two examples and there are more. Why did they all not get the, "Message" and fall in line"?
Did they all get in line after Sally Yates was fired?
Did they all get in line after Comey was fired?

Yates was acting AG for only 10 days before she was fired for insubordination. Trump did what any president or manager would be forced to do when anyone refuses to carry out their orders. She was anti-Trump for sure, but I wouldn’t consider her as a key player in the subversive cabal that is trying to surrepticiously undermine Trump. There are bigger fish to fry.
As for Comey, his removal was an imperative but it was just taking one brick out of the wall. It will take a few more before the structure starts to weaken.
Trump’s mistake is that he allowed too many Obama holdovers to linger in his administration. Leaving them in place allowed them to leak, impede, and generally undermine his agenda.
Good grief...Ya really think the deep state and their D.C. crowns of corruption will roll over do ya? The same corrupt spook agencies who were basically running D.C. and calling the shots? Ya say all Trump has to do is fire a couple of them and they’ll all get in line like good kids?
You’re a very naive individual.
Youre a very naive individual.

I’ve noticed that you seem to have a quick draw when it comes to making personal attacks. Its unfortunate that you prefer to sling cheap shots rather than engage in a constructive dialogue based on cogent arguments.
I’m still waiting to hear how you concluded that I wanted Trump to “fire everyone” which was a gross misrepresenation of what I said. It seems that you prefer “barking from the sidelines” as you like to say.
Get real. Again, if ya believe all that Pollyanna BS, you're a very naive individual.

Rod Rosenweasel is still in his job. He is still in a key position as the de facto AG. He is a key obstructor who is still blocking congress requests for documents and the performance of its lawful investigations. As you probably know, Nunes threated a contempt of Congress resolution and subpoenas for Rosenweasel and FBI Director Christopher Wray.
Trump haters and cabal operatives Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page are still working for the FBI (albeit in different positions) and reportedly still have their top secret clearances. What kind of message does that send to other resistors in the organization?
The forthcoming IG report will likely identify more key obstructors (Obama holdovers) who have stonewalled, lied and concealed information.
Removing Comey and McCabe were significant steps, but just a start toward removing the infestation. It will take the removal of a couple more high value targets (read: key obstructors) like Rosenweasel and his fellow travelers for the corrupt resisters to get the message that they are no longer in control.
Trump hasnt removed enough key people yet to achieve the desired results. I think firing Rosenweasel would send a very loud message.
I guess the Director of the FBI and others don't rate in your naive world. Again, if ya think the vicious corrupt entrenched deep state will get the message, roll over and play nice with Trump if only he fires a couple of them, you're a naive dreamer.
Trump could have removed a lot of the Obama appointees who are still in their jobs, obstructing Trump at every turn. At a bare minimum, the upper layers of DOJ and State should have been cleaned out
So which is it? Just a couple of people or a lot of people? Entire upper layers of Departments at DOJ and the State Department??
Trump told you and everyone else he went into this trying to bring everyone together to work together as the country was so divided. If he'd walked in and did what you suggested, firing nearly everyone in sight. it would have been seen as political war, confrontational, radical, extreme etc. The media would be dancing etc...
Btw Starboard, do the above words look familiar to you?☺
