Chris Cuomo has mockingly bestowed a new moniker on Trey Gowdy: “Captain Benghazi.” On CNN this morning, Cuomo suggested that whereas Gowdy went after the Benghazi inquiry “with such an aggression,” he has been lackadaisical in looking into allegations of misconduct against EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt. Cuomo:

“Wasn’t there a big [makes yawning motion] for Captain Benghazi? They went after that with such an aggression, right? And here he says, I don’t like these kind of allegations, but then, they’ve had a month to get documentation from Pruitt. They haven’t gotten it.”

Wow, what an amateur attempt. The label “Captain Benghazi” only brings up thoughts of Benghazi, not of being overzealous, witch-hunting or pig-headed. Trump would never use a label that directs one away from the character flaw, and to an issue that reflects on your own side. It would have been like calling Sen. Inouye “Captain Iran-Contra”.

Given the agony our country endured through years of watching Gowdy's bluster and posturing as he "demolished" one State Department official after another without a single person being held accountable in the end, I would say that Gowdy is supremely worthy if mockery and derision.
