Four Reasons Snowy Springs Don’t Disprove Global Warming
The Daily Beast ^ | April 6, 2018 | by JAY MICHAELSON

It’s going to be very cold this weekend in the Northeast. That doesn’t mean the climate isn’t changing.

A record-cold “Arctic Blast” is set to hit the East Coast this weekend.

And undoubtedly, some people will point to it and say that it proves global warming isn’t for real.

That’s totally false: categorically, definitely, unequivocally, scientifically false. And yet it’s made over and over and over again by climate denialists and their paid-for politicians in Washington.

Here, then, is the definitive list of four reasons that cold winters do not disprove global warming.

1. Climate Is Personality, Weather Is a Mood.

The most important thing to remember, when it comes to climate change, is that it is never possible to trace any single weather event—hurricane, cold snap, dry spell—to climate change. As University of Georgia geography professor John Knox puts it, climate is personality; weather is mood.

2. There Is No ‘Global Warming.’ There’s Global Climate Disruption.

The Earth’s climatic system is extremely complicated. And so while the core feedback loop of climate change is simple—more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere traps more heat, like glass traps heat in a greenhouse—its effects are anything but. Some parts of the world get hotter, others get colder. And some are thrown into chaos.

3. Yes, in Fact, Climate Change Sometimes Makes Winter Worse.

In some cases, the changes caused by anthropogenic alterations to the atmosphere will cause more wintry effects.

4. The Northeastern United States Is Not the World.

Perhaps this is obvious, but a small swath of land from Maine to Georgia is not representative of the entire Earth’s surface. And as it happens, the warming effects of global climate disruption have not been as keenly felt there as elsewhere.

The Earth could go into another “snowball” period, and they’d still insist that the climate is heating up.

If it was 70 degrees in Central Park today instead of 30, the same folks would be screaming SEE! PROOF OF GLOBAL WARMING!

Why do people pay attention to these idiots?

1-3” snow coming down in Omaha, NE now, with record low temperatures forecast for tonight.

On the bright side, have not had to mow yet and use that awful gasoline....

You can tell rather easily from that picture that the ice sheets are not as much a result of cooling, but of precipitation. The cycle of events starts with some cooling and then feedback from expanded snowfields and ice sheets. The current state of the planet is, fortunately, warmer.

"Four Reasons Snowy Springs Don’t Disprove Global Warming..."

The Marxist tools at the Daily Beast really need to get with the latest Libtard program. It's not "Global Warming" any more. That's old hat and can be easily shown to be a scam. Now it's simply "Climate Change". A much slipperier and harder to nail down moving target. This way any change in temperature (up or down), weather patterns, polar ice caps or the color of the sky on any given day can be attributed to Man Made something or other and used as an excuse to further erode civil liberties. It's a beautiful scheme really. It requires no proof, no defined theory and can be counted on to occur on a daily basis somewhere in the world. So get on the same page Daily Beast. Otherwise people might start thinking you're "Old Fashioned and in need of reeducation".

Every zone has a “last frost date” for a reason and those reasons haven’t changed for hundreds of years.

I've often pointed out that the rise from 280 ppm of CO2 to 400 ppm of CO2 is almost completely manmade.

Correlation does not equal causation. CO2 levels were above 7000 in the Cambrian Period. Exactly whose SUVs did that?

Rifles that can be fired on “full semiautomatic” cause global warming as do people who are allowed to keep most of their paycheck.

It's not a correlation. There's measured manmade CO2 and a corresponding rise in atmospheric CO2. The measurements are from dollar figures for petroleum and similar CO2 producing activities.

The correlations come into play with warming and rising CO2. There is causation from warming to rising CO2, and that would account for about 5-10 ppm of the rise, from about 1C of natural ocean temperate rise in the last 500 years or so. There's a causation from CO2 to warming, known from lab experiments, basic physics, etc. But we don't know the magnitude in the real world due to complexities of heat loss to space. Suffice to say the solar energy input and natural energy loss is many orders of magnitude higher than the subtle effects from greenhouse gases and changes in the levels.

more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere traps more heat, like glass traps heat in a greenhouse.

Greenhouses work by preventing convection, which is completely different than carbon dioxide.
