Thousands of Oklahoma teachers walked out of school Monday and protested at the state capitol for higher salaries and increased funding.

Oklahoma legislators approved a $6,100 raise for state teachers across the board in an attempt to evade the walk-out, but teachers proceeded with the protest, NBC News reported.

“My niece sits on the floor in her middle school English class in Moore, Oklahoma, because they’re overloaded into the class and don’t have enough furniture,” Edmond Public Schools elementary teacher Carrie Akins told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“My son in ninth grade had to get an override on his schedule because his Spanish class was too full … he was student number 41 in the class. As a state, we have failed them.”

“They need to have the ability to write as well as know how to poke keys on a keyboard but writing is more important. “

I agree, but even the college applications and essays are done on a computer these days.

They are not “poking keys”,they are writing in a different way.

A lot of adults still poke at keys, never learned to type like we did years ago on a typewriter.

I had about that many in my class in the 50s, 60s.

Kids knew to behave or get it at home.

Those classrooms that have over 15 students being taught by one teacher all day (elementary) than maybe a law should be passed that an adult on public assistance would be required to sit in that class the whole day to help keep the kids under control so the teacher can do the job they are paid to do.

Here are 279 taxpayer programs administered by the U.S. Dept of Education: https://www2.ed.gov/programs/find/title/index.html?src=apply-page

Where did this money go?

Fire every one of these whining, paid-too-much, under worked losers. Don’;t let these morons near your children. They are a bad influence, at best.

Schools also got an extra $50 mil in general which was 20% of what they asked for. In the end they got over half of what they wanted up front.

IMHO they are taking too harsh of stance. They have to acknowledge what they got and plan another walkout for next year. They have lost my support. This looks a little fishy and more like revenge.

Agreed. There is more going on here than just a strike for more money. Likely some sort of weird union/leftist agenda...

(Note #2: Special Ed students bring in more state and federal dollars per student, so all US schools literally have a vested interest in putting a Special Ed label on every child possible.)

I live in Spencer, OK, and I was shocked to learn that almost every student in our high school has a special ed or special needs label attached to them. It does get the school more federal dollars, but what do you think it does to a student's self esteem?

For what it's worth, these teenage children are mostly black ~90%, so they are also creating victim mentalities instead of self worth and pride. All for some extra school revenue.

There should be no public employee unions.
Teaching used to be a professional occupation.

Bingo! I have no idea why anyone would want to be a union drone, and not your own advocate for being treated as a professional.

Perhaps all teachers should be self-employed contractors. It would benefit all.

If the Democrats ran OK, this probably wouldn’t be happening. If it did, you wouldn’t know it.

But, but they are professionals and wanted to be treated as professionals like doctors and lawyers! Oh wait a minute doctors and lawyers don’t go on strike, never mind...

Kentucky’s teachers have really shown their collective asses the last two weeks wailing and carrying on about the governor making hard choices on their pensions to try and save it because the teachers Democrat governors and legislators stole their pension money and spent it, so who do they blame, the Republican governor who has funded it at100% the last two years, go figure.

Seriously! We have GOT to get education out from under the federal umbrella. It is nothing more than theft and our children are left with subpar education with a side of indoctrination.
