Israel reaches deal with UN to send 16,000 African migrants to West

Israel said on Monday it has cancelled a plan to deport African migrants to Africa and reached an agreement with the U.N. refugee agency to send more than 16,000 to Western countries instead.

Other migrants, many of whom are seeking asylum, will be allowed to remain in Israel for at least the next five years, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.

The fate of some 37,000 Africans in Israel has posed a moral dilemma for a state founded as a haven for Jews from persecution and a national home. The right-wing government is under pressure from its nationalist voter base to expel the migrants, while others are calling for them to be taken in.

In February, Israel started handing out notices to 20,000 male African migrants giving them two months to leave the country or risk being thrown in jail.

The countries that are accepting them were parties to the negotiations in the UN. As I said.

It’s Germany, Italy and Canada, by the way.

Thanks.

That being the case, the article misidentified the parties to the agreement. I should have expected nothing less from The Globe & Mail.

“others (who don’t live anywhere near South Tel Aviv and wouldn’t even drive through there) are calling for them to be taken in.”

Fixed.

Hopefully, enough Canadians have awakened out of their malaise, to realise what a waste of skin our current Prime Minister is.

I'd imagine that there are now millions of Canadians who honestly wish Harper had won reelection!

Why should Israel take in any Africans at all?

"Genetic tests carried out by British scientists have revealed that many of the Lemba tribesmen in southern Africa have Jewish origins, according to a report by the BBC. The Lemba, a tribe of 70,000 to 80,000 members who live in central Zimbabwe and northern South Africa, have customs which are similar to Jewish ones: Lemba refrain from eating pork or other foods forbidden by the Torah, or forbidden combinations of permitted foods, wear yarmulke-like skull caps, conduct ritual animal slaughter, have a holy day once a week, and even put a Star of David on their gravestones. According to their oral tradition, the Lemba are descended from seven Jewish men who left Israel 2,500 years ago and married African women. The Lemba prefer their children to marry other Lembas, and marriage to non-Lembas is being discouraged."

Andrew Scheer is a conservative Conservative but he doesn’t seem to have the presence of even Harper, the policy wonk. While I think he can win the next election, I don’t see a majority right now, with him as leader of the Conservatives.

Until the Cons start talking up Scheer to the press, he is a bit of an unknown. I would like him to pick up a bit of attitude, a la Kevin O’Leary, becoming a bit of a populist, a milder DJT. As we Canucks do often follow the lead of our ‘Murcan cousins, a leader with a bit of ‘attitude’ could likely succeed. That is what the Canadian Conservative ‘brand’ needs, IMO.

Yeah, after the Trudeau win I turned all my attention to America. Especially after the Sun News fail. We now have NOTHING - no voice for conservatives in Canada - except for handful of policy groups like Taxpayer Federation and Fraser Institute.

I’m guessing, but it has taken years for me to realize that conservatives are a minority in Canada. Just the way it is. I would guess around 15% are serious conservatives.

AFA being a Canadian 'conservative', it is all a matter of perspective. For example, from the perspective of having lived the entirety of my 57 years in Canada, I believe that I am quite conservative, at least when compared to my fellow Canucks. Yet, from the perspective of a number of FReepers, I am merely a hair's breath away from being a communist.

Regarding 'conservative' media, there is 'The Rebel Media'. I both like, and dislike 'The Rebel'. While mostly conservative, Ezra Levant has an agenda. I was quite disappointed when Levant fired Faith Goldy. Of course being conservative media, it is attacked often and vehemently by the Canadian MSM (read: Canadian socialist media). Generally, it is good but not many Canadians read, or agree with 'The Rebel'.

Yeah, I’m confused with the Rebel. Wonder if it will eventually fail like Sun News? We lost Lauren Southern as well, which is too bad.

I don’t know how Canadians can stand the Canadian media? Really what difference does it make whether you watch CTV, Global or CBC. Same stories from the same perspective. Sun News actually discovered there were OTHER stories to be told - but Canucks don’t seem to care.

I’m pretty hard core conservative, even more so than my American wife. For instance we cannot have a discussion about homosexuals at all.
