Free high-capacity magazines given out at gun rights rally

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Gun rights supporters protesting gun restriction legislation have gathered outside the Vermont Statehouse to urge the governor not to sign the bill.

Police estimate hundreds of protesters turned out Saturday to show their opposition a day after the Vermont legislature passed the gun restrictions package.

Protesters were giving away 1,200 30-round magazines. The legislation would ban high-capacity magazines and rapid-fire devices known as bump stocks, in addition to raising the legal age. It also would expand background checks for private gun sales.

People who own high-capacity magazines before the law takes effect can keep them.

Gun rights advocates also were accepting donations for a fund to challenge the Vermont legislation.

Republican Gov. Phil Scott is expected to sign the bill.

The law was passed and the RINO governor promised to sign it.

Vermonters can now enjoy their magazine capacity limit, etc.

There’ll probably be a move to do the same to the last two free states in New England, Maine and NH.

A similar law was passed here in Colorado a few years ago. I can only assume that no one from Denver has since driven to a Wyoming gun show and purchased normal capacity magazines.

Because that would be, y'know....wrong. :-)

I read a backgrounder on this. Apparently, the tragedy in Florida in February and also that a young teenager in Vermont who had spent time in a mental health facility was recently discovered with a firearms collection and had expressed a desire to go and shoot up his school were the main factors behind this little charade. Century Arms is apparently not happy with this at all and that they are helping out with the court challenge.

Semi-automatic weapons have only one purpose over single shot weapons.......to kill people more effectively in a target rich environment.

That makes them more effective in combat, and in self-defense, very noble causes.

The higher rate of fire by the M-1 Garand carried by nearly all our troops is the main reason we defeated Germany and Japan.

High capacity magazines and bump stocks however, only enhance the wrongful use of semi-automatic weapons to kill people outside of warfare.

Self defense is not enhanced by either and capable sportsman don’t need either. Nearly all 30 round magazines are cheaply made and jam.

The newer “Enhanced Performance Magazine” works much better. However, very few gun owners are competent at adjusting the compression on the magazine latch spring to allow a fulled bedded magazine as the magazine catch begins to wear.

So, even quality magazines will cause misfires.

Bottom line, no one needs 30 rounds to defend themselves. The war had better be over by the 19th round.....

Throw the gun grabbers a bone.

“...Nearly all 30 round magazines are cheaply made and jam....”

Says who? Started out with 20 round magazines in the Army and quickly moved to 30 (dates my service). Over 21 years of service never had a jam based on a bad magazine.

Took my daughter out to shoot the AR15 yesterday and used 30 round magazines. Never had a misfire or jam.

What the hell are you talking about!!! You listen here Elmer Fudd. 30 Round mags are STANDARD! Nothing high capacity about it. If they go, blood will flow.

Coward!

Throw the gun grabbers a bone.

Never. First they'll limit you to a 10 round magazine...then 5...then single shot weapons only.

The higher rate of fire by the M-1 Garand carried by nearly all our troops is the main reason we defeated Germany and Japan.

While it was an advantage, our ability to field almost a hundred aircraft carriers to Japan's twenty had a wee bit more to do with it.

Semi-automatic weapons have only one purpose over single shot weapons.......to kill people more effectively in a target rich environment.

So what exsctly are you calling for? Outlawing all semiautomatics?

Undeniable result of Libtards from NY and MA flooding into what was once a rural, bucolic state. Libtards now rule there. Another state down the drain. Just as what happened to Colorado.

“Bottom line, no one needs 30 rounds to defend themselves...”

Wow. 2A is not about defense, or hunting, or collecting. 2A is about shooting enemies of the state, foreign and domestic. Some could logically say that American enemies of 2A are right on the edge of being domestic enemies of the state.

You're definition of a semi auto must include a good majority of handguns.

You sound like a gun grabber.

You can chose not to exercise your Second Amendment right....the rest of us will decide for ourselves.

"Semi-automatic weapons have only one purpose over single shot weapons.......to kill people more effectively in a target rich environment."

nonsense. I know of two very good reasons right off the top of my head for 30 round mags;

1. Range time is expensive, I don't want to waste my time at the range reloading mags.

2. If you are hunting something that may charge you I want all the rounds available to take it out before it gets to me. And I don't want to work a bolt while I'm doing it. Especially if there are more than one charging. (ie. feral hogs.)
