Voters prioritize protecting citizens from gun violence over protecting the rights of gun owners. And while majorities support a variety of gun control proposals, the latest Fox News poll also finds doubt Congress will act -- or that it would make any difference if it does.
By a 13-point margin, voters consider protecting against gun violence more important than protecting gun rights (53-40 percent).
In addition, theres substantial support for specific measures to reduce gun violence, including: requiring criminal background checks on all gun buyers (91 percent), requiring mental health checks on all gun buyers (84 percent), raising the age to buy all guns to 21 (72 percent), putting armed guards in schools (69 percent), and banning assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons (60 percent).

The proposal a majority rejects is allowing teachers and school officials to carry guns on school grounds (57 percent oppose). That was also the case in 2013 (52 percent opposed.)
The Fox News poll asked about these measures in January 2013, a month after the Newtown Connecticut school shooting that killed 26.
Compared to that time, support for putting armed guards at schools is up nine points, a ban on assault weapons is up six, and requiring mental health checks is up one. Support for universal background checks is unchanged -- and about 9-in-10 Democrats, Republicans, and independents favor them.
Nearly half of those living in a gun-owner household favor banning assault weapons: 47 percent favor, 50 percent oppose.

Donald Trump has no chance to win 270 Electorial votes!
Welcome to the First Woman President Hillary Clinton!
NO, that is NOT an accurate poll.
Depends on exactly how the questions were asked
Yes, it is, absolutely.
We the People are supposed to be vigilant, willing and able to discern truth from lies.
When we allow ourselves to be lazy, stupid and naive, we no longer deserve freedom. The tyrants will be all too happy to devour us and provide the "security" we crave.
People under 35 tend to believe what their iPhones and Twitter feeds tell them to. This could be accurate.
In the middle of the posted text there is a link to the original Fox News document with the exact questions.
They would probably answer ‘a weapon that causes an assault’.
2nd Amendment bump for later....
>>They would probably answer a weapon that causes an assault.<<
Good follow-up question: “Do you know what a Tautology is?”
Polls can get whatever results they want to for the people PAYING for the poll-—by only polling those who have the same political views.
A) FUX News has swung wildly to the left.
B) According to the polls, there is a 99.99% chance that Hillary Clinton will be elected President in November of 2016.
And that is exactly what is happening.
While we type away on the Internet pretty darn good, very few concerned patriots are actually even willing to lift a finger to remedy this problem.
They think you can educate the delusional?
You cannot educate the delusional.
We need to organize some marches of our own so that they start second guessing the risk they are taking by threatening the freedom to bear arms..
I favor certain weapon control measures: no private ownership of nuclear weapons, laser weapons, rocket launchers, grenades, rail guns, tanks, or attack helicopters.
Therefore, I don't believe their stinking poll!
🐂💩 Stopped reading right there.
The public needs to be educated on the importance of the 2nd Amendment. a flood of TV and Internet informational stories spelling out the reasons our founding Fathers included the 2nd, the fact that the Constitution was written to protect citizens against tyrannical government, to give just an inch will open the door for further infringement, that the real reason for gun violence is not the firearm but because of cultural changes that must be forced and turn back to a civilized society, that it is people with psychiatric conditions attacking the schools, etc. Teach the history of nations where guns have been banned.
The NRA and conservative PAC’s need to spend some money and teach the nation. And do so pronto!
“From what Ive seen, about 25% of Americans own guns, so it does not seem surprising that a large percentage of the others would be for more control.”
The percentage of gun owners is at least 50% plus & growing.
There is a MSM meme that says 3% of gun owners own more than 50% of all guns in America, based upon a survey with a badly flawed methodology. The fatal flaw in this survey is that it’s based on telephone polling which consists of demanding, “How many guns do you own?”
If a majority of respondents either refuse to answer or reply with “none of your d@mned business!!” that may be interpreted as `yes, I own guns but I won’t tell you how many’. But many more will reply, “None; I do not own any guns” and the survey results are instantly distorted beyond reality.
The “3% own 50%” meme is also intended to make politicians believe that gun owners are an insignificant minority against whom it is politically safe to pass restrictive new gun laws.
There is also an element of class warfare among gun grabbers that says “gun owners are not our kind of people and we have nothing in common with them”.
The percentage question could be easily answered by releasing NICS stats showing how many checks have been done on first time gun owners since Obama took office in 2009.
But guess what? That would be political dynamite. In my opinion there has been an explosion of new owners of guns during the last ten years of gun grabbing fury. Those NICS numbers would show that gun ownership is growing exponentially, especially among women, in the face of liberal demands for registration and confiscation.
Universal checks = gun registration = gun confiscation = total Communism.
