President Trump on Monday ordered the expulsion of 60 Russian intelligence officers in the United States and the closure of the Russian consulate in Seattle in response to the nerve agent attack on an ex-Russian spy in the U.K. earlier this month, senior administration officials said.
The steps, following Britain's expulsion of Russian diplomats, are meant to send a message to Moscow that actions have consequences, the officials said. The Seattle consulate is being closed because of its proximity to submarine bases, as well as Boeing.
With these steps, the United States and our allies and partners make clear to Russia that its actions have consequences, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said. The United States stands ready to cooperate to build a better relationship with Russia, but this can only happen with a change in the Russian governments behavior.
Russia, which has been blamed for the attack, has denied wrongdoing.
Officials said a total of 60 Russians are being expelled, including 48 at the Russian embassy and 12 at the United Nations. The individuals and their families have been given seven days to leave the United States.
"Today, the United States began the process of expelling 12 intelligence operatives from the Russian Mission to the United Nations who have abused their privilege of residence in the United States," UN Ambassador Nikki Haley said Monday. "After a review, we have determined that the 12 intelligence operatives engaged in espionage activities that are adverse to our national security."

Holy Cow. This is Sirius.
Another Russian defector today fled the UK out of fear MI6 is going to get him next.
Interesting that me must believe British intel when they say Russia poisoned a defector who wanted to return to Russia & whose daughter lives in Russia, but we can’t believe British intel when their GCHQ fed Trump’s telephone calls to the Obama administration & when they helped prepare the pee dossier against Trump.
“in response to the nerve agent attack on an ex-Russian spy in the U.K. earlier this month, “
Why would Russia bother killing an old spy who has given up his spying years ago. It’s not as if he had access to some super secret info that he may divulge and he just defected.
I think people should really think about this, before jumping to conclusions.
It is also possible that somebody did this to set up Russia and make sure the Western nations will be against Russia.
Ditto that.
I also think Trump was pushed into a corner, d*** if he does and d*** if he doesn’t.
Oops, you just sprung onto some truth.
This probably links up with Syria in the end.
Very scary ratcheting things up over the land of “Armageddon”.
Well, he’s got better intel than we do. So he’s operating off a different playbook.
“...to set up Russia and make sure the Western nations will be against Russia.”
LOl, the reason nations are against Russia is because they are a rogue nation, allying with terror states like Iran and NKorea, as well as Syria.
They also illegally annexed Crimea and illegally sent operatives into Ukraine to foster a civil war.
They are the shit turds of Europe, lack free elections and cut out dissent and candidates from which to run agains der fuhrer.
A Russian consulate in Seattle?
Kinda fitting location given that at some park in the city is a statue of Lenin.
The US government ruled Mikhail Lesins death an accident, but multiple intelligence and law enforcement officials suspect it was a Russian hit.
Here are 10 critics of Vladimir Putin who died violently or in suspicious ways
Has anyone considered that maybe, just maybe, CIA Director Pompeo is cleaning up the agency and demanding detailed daily briefings rather than playing politics, and advising the President? No, that would be too simple.
Im sure glad we live in a country where critics, investigative journalists, secrets leakers, ex mistresses and lovers and other cohorts of our political leaders dont die in mysterious ways
Now if he could only expel the muzzies...
Probably due to all the naval installations around that area.
Poland especially knows how bad Russia is. Moreso than the West.
If Russia wants to play with China in the So. China Sea, I am sure China will take care of itself.
They can have the allies they want to serve their economic interests, just as much as we can. and they want that pipeline. I don’t have any problem with that.
They poison their turncoats. We arm drug dealers in Fast and Furious.
How do you feel about assertive self-defense?
________
I think that we should be prominently assertively self-defensive. But not sending our men to defend other people’s sandboxes.
Build a wall, arm to the teeth, work with allies, but no wars, and certainty no wars for others.
Trump and Europe are doing right. Its better for Russian people in the long-run too that the world is holding their leadership/criminal oligarchy to account
_____________
Why? Let China do that work. Tired of being the universal policeman.
Bolton is not a warmonger. Dont spew that garbage. He has always had Americas interests in mind especially combatting the UN. Get a grip!
______________
I think he can be both a warmonger and have American interests in mind. At least some of American’s interests.
Sorry we disagree.
