Pollak: Conservative Hysteria over Omnibus Is Wrong and Self-Defeating
breitbart.com ^ | March 26, 2018

The fact that the 2,232-page bill was jammed down legislators’ throats with literally no time to read it shows how little has changed in Washington even after the Tea Party.

But the omnibus is not a disaster. In fact, Republicans scored many important wins.

One is the fact that the bill provides massive new spending for defense — “the largest year-to-year increase in base funding for the Department of Defense in 15 years,” according to the bill’s authors.

That funding was badly needed — and will not easily be reversed.

Military.com summarizes the highlights:

The Navy gets 14 new ships, including a carrier; the Air Force adds 56 F-35s; the Army gets 17 Apache and 11 Lakota helicopters; the Marine Corpsreceives 24 vertical landing F-35Bs; and the Coast Guard gets a long-needed icebreaker.

All the troops get funding for a 2.4 percent pay raise that took effect at the beginning of the year, with the possibility for more next year.

The Air Force also gets $103 million for the wing replacement program on the A-10 Thunderbolt as a start in what Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson said earlier this week is a plan to keep the “Warthogs” flying at least to 2030.

Most conservatives — from skeptical libertarians to hawkish neoconservatives — agree that national security is the first priority of government. The new defense spending will help the U.S. military catch up to the pace of Chinese expansion, and keep other threats in check.

As the President said, he didn’t like the bill but his first priority as President is to defend our country.

The new law goes a long way towards rebuilding our depleted military - and giving our troops a long-deserved pay raise for their hard work serving our country.

That comes before every thing else and conservatives have to swallow castor oil to get it accomplished.

Trump had to deal with this Bill to get Defense spending, he won’t in the future ones.

Good article and one that the blind nay-sayers need to read and accept as FACT.

Nope...looking at reality as it is and seeing the truth; unlike the whinging, whiny, immature, political naifs yearning for the stupid and/or impossible; not to mention instant gratification !

A very crude comment delivered in a mixed forum. Obviously, you have no class and would be ushered out of the officers mess in a gathering of gentlemen. Some of us, men and women, still respect the civility and decorum handed down by our predecessors. Seemingly, you do not.

You obviously haven’t read the letter he wrote to McConnell and Ryan twenty minutes after he signed bill. The money will go (because of the EO he wrote on December 21) where he says it will go. No funding of PP or OC or SC. Only funding going to those areas he deems to be in line with our national security. Dems have been snoockered

This is an election year pro incumbent budget. Voters want their representatives to bring home the bacon and the budget delivers. It will help the GOP keep the majority.

The spending will also boost the economy, create jobs, etc. Another plus for the GOP keeping the majority.

Budget cutting doesn’t win elections. Sad fact. The democrats made a choice to keep their seats and stay in the minority by supporting this bill.

Oh, please. That’s like the Menendez brothers saying,

Yup

I would have done it differently but I am just some deplorable BETRAYED American.

The excuse seems to be that this is ONLY Omnibus. Lady Liberty was raped AGAIN even if she does not admit it.

Government will always find a way to feed itself and never starves as long as we feed it.

As far as I am concerned, we are back to the Declaration of Independence.

The Constitution is pretty much irrelevant and might as well be Un-Constitutional. The war right now is full force against 2A and the President. This country is weak and floundering.

All of the "smart" ones on FReep will call me crazy and to calm down. I don't think we are winning anything but only slowing the chain to our demise.

While I’m thankful our military is adequately funded, there is a “game” being played here.

When was the last time congress passed a budget?

Why are we borrowing money at interest from say, China, to give it to Italy? How does that make any sense? The national government is in debt to the tune of $21 Trillion dollars, with at least triple that in unfunded liabilities. If you’re wondering what the unfunded liabilities are, they mean YOU.

People are sick of foreign deployments and/or wars that go on and on and on seemingly indefinitely. What happened to the 4 Year Rule? Why are we defending the border in say, South Korea, but we won’t defend the American border? That’s insanity. You’ll hear politicians talk about how “we can’t disengage and become isolationist”; nobody is suggesting that we disengage. They are ever offering us a false choice. Endless entanglements, with no end in sight, with no purpose that anyone can divine spending blood and treasure, while other politicians claim what we really need to do is get rid of our southern border altogether. And the Democrats seem to want to campaign on getting rid of the Border and Customs division.

So huge expenditures for “homeland security” but the border is wide open. Clinton was REJECTED because of shit just like this. Good thing Republicans hold both houses of congress otherwise stuff like “Planned Parenthood” would be fully funded, so-called “Sanctuary Cities” and another bailout of Obiecare would be jammed down the taxpayers throat.

They shoot the Wings off and those things just keep Flying, simply amazing. They land, the Mechanics bolt on the new Wing and they fly back to kill more Amish...

This is where somebody remembers the story of the Israeli Pilot who flew his F-15 back to Base with one entire Wing blown off.

In the aftermath of this bill, you have two options: continue supporting the President moving forward—A President who happens to be in the midst of fighting a pervasive, ongoing coup attempt from the Deep State—or drop your support for the President, exposing yourself as a #NeverTrumper.

Support the President moving forward—or don't, and become a de facto #NeverTrumper.

I look forward to your decision...
