And George Jefferson, who called his mix-race neighbors “Mr. and Mrs. Zebra”, was sort of the black counterpart. But I don’t consider it real racism unless there is genuine hatred, not just ignorance. There is a lot of hatred on display today, but not the Archie Bunker type.
A good friend who’d been to China on business once loaned me a bootlegged Chinese DVD of one on the Hannibal Lecher movies. One viewing made me a fan of the real, legal Hollywood product and willing to pay the legal price. The color and consistency made it obvious that master had been recorded off the screen in some theater, a fact added to by occasionally seeing a head moving across the screen. The sound was terrible.
I’m not a racist, either...but to be constantly categorized as one simply because of the color of my skin is most assuredly giving me cause to reconsider.
The left calls the truth bigotry. The choice is to endure condemnation or live a lie.

Charming isn’t it.
PBS/NPR I think.
And that’s exactly what the author of the piece said. We’ve learned from experience that not everyone is good & we look at everyone we meet with a shady eye. We’ve lost our naiveté. It’s the left that chooses to look on that as bigotry.
Absolutely. The problem is not in heeding them, but in applying a generality to a specific without corroborative evidence.
inflation was eating a big chunk of that interest
Not with me.
As soon as you take it, you are suddenly surrounded by several other tough looking blacks who again explain that they are aspiring artists and that you should at least show your appreciation for your "gift" by handing over some money.
If you refuse to take the CD, sometimes they drop it on the ground and then try to make you feel guilty because the CD is now ruined. Best course of action here is to keep walking with your head forward. Don't look back at them.
A variation of this is they ask you your name and then scribble it with magic marker on the CD and "autograph" it before handing it to you. The idea behind that is you now feel indebted to pay them something because the CD is now personalized to you.
Again, best practice is to walk away and ignore them. You will likely get taunted and accused of "not liking black people" but just keep walking and they will eventually give up and look for the next tourist to scam. You are in no danger. This is Times Square after all. Huge police presence and cameras everywhere.
Many tourists fall for the scam however and hand over way too much money because they are scared and just want to get out of the situation.
Are they still doing it? I would like to organize a little surprise for them.
“Is it funnier than watching your democrat neighbor fall off his roof?”
That sounds like a hoot. Did you point and laugh?
I don't mean to paint Times Square as a dangerous place, everybody should check it out at least once, but it can be definitely annoying if you come off as a tourist. Another big scam that happens there are people on the street selling tickets to attractions like Statue of Liberty, shows or Empire State Building. Always have your tickets bought online ahead of time or buy them at the actual box office.
I was addressing this statement by you “Something people DO NOT WANT to believe: stereotypes are based in reality.”
I was simply pointing out that if that’s true, we all here on FR are likely to be racist, bigoted, homophobic.
Do you think that’s true?
(Deleted paragraph telling just a few of the places I've been)
Life IS hard. It's even harder when you're stupid. John Wayne (Marion Morrison).
I was NEVER a racist until the magic negro came along and crapped on every damned thing American and Christian.
He and his ilk can kiss my ass.
To some extent, yes.
By & large, the majority of FReepers would not be happy about a mosque being built in their community, or low-cost housing. We know who would be moving in & the likely result. We would probably not be wrong in our assumptions, regardless of the fact that there are good Muslims & good people who are down on their luck. But we know the OTHERS will present problems.
If that’s what some call bigotry, then okay...I’m a bigot.
They didn’t care as it was the bottom line that mattered.
Back then they could deduct Credit Card interest and do a lot more to off set inflation like buy 50 acres for 18000 and a house in Fl
