Because of the $700 & $716 Billion Dollars gotten to rebuild our Military, many jobs are created and our Military is again rich. Building a great Border Wall, with drugs (poison) and enemy combatants pouring into our Country, is all about National Defense. Build WALL through M!

"What do you mean there isn’t enough concrete in the world. A 2010 survey by the Federal Highway Administration counted 2,748 linear miles of noise barriers built along highways in the U.S."

Finished concrete won't pour. ;-)

"The Mexican border is 1,989 miles long."

Cement producers have been saying for well over ten years that there's a shortage. Enough cement for a concrete wall 32 feet high, 2 feet thick and 1,989 miles long would be problematic in several ways.

A great wall of Walter Mitty or Richy Rich (common men, disinterested in much study or work) would be an economic and tactical failure.

The barriers that are really being built, including the concrete portions, will be adequate and fine for the passive part of security. Get rid of some regulations that stand in the way of producing more cement and building useful structures, and put it to better uses.

It was my duty for a few years to find ways through and over passive and active barriers. When given the job to build security, our Army knows what it's doing. But no fixed obstacle will stop determined men for long in this post-Medieval time. That's not Africa or the Middle East below our southern border, and design problems vary from one part of the world to another.

Security can be done adequately, but it's best done by those with training or long term interest in the kind of security problem being solved.

I was trying to get the point across, that a fence alone won’t do it. There are many areas of knowledge and practice involved in security.

It was my duty to train and to train others to breach, clear and build obstacles, but it appears that Homer Simpson of the political class feels more knowledgeable and authoritative.

Men (and women) who’ve done technical work like construction or have otherwise educated themselves to do so can clear or breach any obstacle. Ingenuity trumps all in that game, and most of the ingenuity is in the lower social classes of people. This just in.

During WWII Seabee's built runways with Gook snipers trying to kill them.

My favorite uncle was one of those Seabees. He used to write regularly to my mom, then she didn't hear from him for quite a while. Finally she got a letter from him and the reason she didn't hear from him was, he was driving a bulldozer and clearing jungle vegetation, when he ran it off a cliff and was hurt pretty badly. After he recuperated, he got right back on the job. Can do!

I’m sorry for not addressing your comment more specifically. Yes, the fence in Israel is very well built and serves its purpose well.

Cost effective Israel-style fencing, with wall where logical. PLUS (now) military personnel along it. With their cool military toys. OK.

Trump could leave a 1,933 mile long legacy.
If lit along it’s length, visible from space at night.
He’s going to do it.

Thanks for your informed replies.

I wish more comments on FR were up to that standard!

I would imagine (not knowing anything) that two fences with some space between might be effective in areas with more border sneakers; and of course other arrangements.

"I would imagine (not knowing anything) that two fences with some space between might be effective in areas with more border sneakers; and of course other arrangements."

That's the attitude and where ingenuity comes from! That's also a great idea. It was and probably continues to be a military standard for perimeter wire obstacles (two different types of fences with a little space in between). :-)

General mechanical aptitude (from fixing and making things), humility (considering what pride precedes) and a desire to use one's imagination are the best prerequisites that I can think of offhand. For security, imagine, plan, build, improve, continue to improve. Security can also be applied in many ways for one's home today with some adjustments.

In a civil environment like the Midwest (ha, gotcha), consider safety and liability for anyone who might come in need unexpectedly (transportation trouble, medical emergency, etc.). Also consider aesthetics.

Supposedly he cannot do it because of how Congress Appropriates the Money.

This will be interesting.

I hear the Army Corp of Engineers wants to model the Wall after Stormy Daniels massive Boobs. It will be hell to climb over unless you can hook the Nip with a lasso.
