The worlds largest cruise ship was delivered to Royal Caribbean International on Friday by STX France at their Saint-Nazaire, France.
Symphony of the Seas, Royal Caribbeans fourth Oasis-class vessel, is 228,081 gross registered tons and measures 362 meters long by 66 meters wide and 70 meters high.
The vessel has capacity for 6,800 passengers and 2,000 crew in 2,759 staterooms.
By gross tonnage, the Symphony of the Seas takes the title as the largest cruise ship in the world, surpassing the 226,900 gt Harmony of the Seas, Royal Caribbeans third Oasis ship which was also built at STX France.
The battleship Missouri was 70,000 tons.
I am sure that the 18 lifeboats would take care of all 8.800 passengers and crew.
Does it come with the norovirus preinstalled or is it aftermarket?
That.... is one big cruise ship!
Horrific experience, and dangerous unstable design unless stability augmentation systems are being used.
“I am sure that the 18 lifeboats would take care of all 8.800 passengers and crew.”
That’s the plan - it’ll just take three trips.
They DID say it’s gross tons...so judge for yourself.
Aloha Snackbar! What a target!!
height greater than the beam = capsize
Never, that is not ever, cruise on that vessel
That’s an 1,187.36 foot long petri dish.
man that thing looks top heavy! Full of passengers to boot?? I suggest keep it in calm waters until they are confident!
The 2000+ crew use inflatables. The lifeboats are for passengers.
You need to educate yourself they have many many inflatable life boats in canisters on deck
Love how some Freepers just dot think
I took a cruise on Harmony of the Seas. Best ship Ive ever cruised on. It was so stable most of the time it felt like we were standing on land. The ship had so much to offer the days at sea were wonderful, and we didnt have time to do everything we wanted to try on board with a 7 day cruise. It will be hard to go back to a lesser ship. And yes, there are more than adequate life boats.
On the other hand, I now know what I’m going to steal first when the SHTF.
There’s got to be a morning after....
Does the USA even build ships anymore?
This thing looks top heavy.
“The vessel has capacity for 6,800 passengers and 2,000 crew in 2,759 staterooms.”
Where on EARTH are all these people going, and what do they imagine they’ll find there that they can’t find at home????
