Lieu to Trump on spending bill: You got rolled
The Hill ^ | 03/23/18 | JOHN BOWDEN

Posted on 03/23/2018 10:21:47 PM PDT by aquila48

Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu (Calif.) taunted President Trump on Twitter Friday evening after the president signed a massive $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill. Trump threatened to veto the bill before ultimately signing it, decrying the bill's lack of funding for his border wall proposal.

Lieu mocked Trump on Friday after the bill's signing, saying that Trump was "rolled" by Republican leaders in Congress who failed to secure a deal with Democrats over border wall funding or a legislative fix for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients.

"Dear @realDonaldTrump: You wimped out. You failed to deliver on your veto threat. Now we in Congress will believe you even less," Lieu tweeted.

"The Republican controlled Congress just rolled you. And they will roll you again. Because when the moment of truth came, you showed great weakness," the California lawmaker added.

One of the biggest blunders in American history was when President Nixon resigned.

IMHO

“The great Republican battle cry, heard at every engagement as they run away, “wait until the next fight!”

Very sadly true!

And not at all humorous like the “run away” scene in Monty Python. But Saturday night live could do a skit on them.

Trump coalition only has so much patience

Anyone with half a brain should be happy with his first 14 months in office.

Trump has: Cut corporate tax cuts almost in half, cut in billions in regulations, enacted tariffs to protect US jobs, nominated the most conservative justices of any President in history, destroyed ISIS, revoked funding for PP internationally and allowed states to de-fund PP. and, now, managed to provided funding to rebuild our military, which was gutted under Obama. Border security and enforcement infinitely better than it was under Obama.

We have idiots expecting perfection that no politicians dealing with what Trump is deal with could meet. The Republicans are the stupid party but conservatives that expect perfection are part of a stupid movement.

Nothing like that in the bill that i can find. There is a limit on repair costs though.

Actually the way I read it the money could come from military spending.
https://www.congress.gov/115/bills/hr1625/BILLS-115hr1625eah.pdf

Yes, the money for the wall could come from the military spending.

Then why have Congress even vote on it if the president can spend money however he likes?

No, the money will be spent as allocated in the bill.

Trump signed it, it is now his. He had veto power, he could have forced republican Congressmen to overturn a Republican president and destroy their chances in the midterms. I don’t think they would have done it - especially after the phone lines melt down.

It’s not either or.....that’s a simplistic view

Trump is open to criticism when he effs up like today

Worst move so far and risky

We are not going to go through another Bush worship ala Trump this time

Sorry

He is in danger from this and touting DACA amnesty and talking new gun control after Parkland and not following through on the wall and borders and tearing up Iran deal and defunding PP and PBS etc of eroding his base

If he backtracks on the wall and amnesty he’s done.....today didn’t help considering those objectives are languishing

We are all he has....we should be his barometer not political appeasement

They will NEVER support him..

Dems or GOPe ...same enemies

“Anyone with half a brain should be happy with his first 14 months in office.”

IF the first 14 months doesn’t include today.

“The five stages, denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance are a part of the framework that makes up our learning to live with the one we lost.”

Shame to still see so many at stage one. It gets better.

Under an executive state of emergency the POTUS can do almost anything. Trump will do what it takes.

So we're down to waiting and hoping that Trump will declare himself a "pen and phone" King, "because we can't wait for Congress to do the right thing", or something like that?

They still need 67 votes in the Senate to get a conviction. Remember Clinton’s perjury charge? Only 45 were for conviction. It is hard to do. It only takes a simple majority in the house to impeach.

The Wall is happening.

Trump’s forte is construction. Trump can build a wall all day long. He builds skyscrapers under time frame and under budget.

The Wall is Trump’s signature deal. Trump is going to build his wall. He is working on funding it. Most Republicans are encouraging Trump to open a go fund me page to solicit additional funding for the wall.

Again, Trump builds skyscrapers. Trump is a builder. Trump will build his Wall before 2020.

Maybe but he was told by his party the senate was likely prepared to convict him

Given the House charges were a certainty..

The ruling on the tapes sealed the deal in Nixon’s mind I think

They were not good for him

Trump is open to criticism when he effs up like today

I never said otherwise. What I said is that, on balance, he's done an outstanding job and advanced a conservative agenda on multiple different issues.

Reagan made mistakes and that didn't negate the fact he was great President and conservative icon.

There is analogy between Bush and Trump because Bush rarely implemented a conservative agenda.

Trump Tower

Prime Real Estate

Trump should be very proud of his accomplishments as a builder. As such, the Wall will be crowd funded if necessary. But appears to be possibly funded under military.

He is in danger from this and touting DACA amnesty

He's using DACA as leverage to get the wall and other immigration objectives and bringing it up to demonstrate the Dems don't want a deal on DACA.

If he were pro-DACA, he wouldn't have repealed Obama's EO on DACA.

Ryan betrayed America. McConnell can hide behind the 60 vote rule. Ryan has no excuse. He betrayed his country
