Craigslist has yanked its personal ads section in the wake of an anti-online sex trafficking bill that passed in Congress this week.
The Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, or FOSTA, makes websites criminally liable for content that its users post, including prostitution ads and sex-trafficking content.
Craigslist whose personals include bawdy categories such as casual encounters said it pulled ads because it wasnt worth running afoul of the new law.
Any tool or service can be misused, the website said in a statement. We cant take such risk without jeopardizing all our other services, so we are regretfully taking craigslist personals offline. Hopefully we can bring them back some day.
It added, To the millions of spouses, partners, and couples who met through craigslist, we wish you every happiness!

“Houston has 10-digit dialing on all calls and 4 area codes. I doubt itt the only city like that.”

“Same here in out of the way Syracuse, NY. 10 digits even if you’re in the same area code as the other party. Bit of a pain.”

By the time y’sll finish dialing for a pizza delivery you’ve changed your mind and have to start all over again to order Chinese instead.
June 6,1944 was a famous date.
Yea, when they advertise openly, it’s much easier to find them.
I’m not THAT old!....................
Even in my area code, I have to dial the area code. They went to that a few years ago because it opens up hundreds of new area codes.
Fewer and fewer people know what that means.
I know, I fear we a crossing a ‘fork in the road’.

I’m guessing you folks maybe all live in extremely high-density populated areas.
LOL.
If they are liable for criminal activity on the personals, what about criminal activity in other categories? If someone sells me a bad car or comes to my home to rob me because of an ad or a myriad of other possibilities do they bear liability? People are selling dope on there all the time, are they liable?
I suspect this ‘law’ will not last very long.....................COULD ALSO APPLY TO NEWSPAPERS, FACEBOOK FOR SALE SECTION, EBAY, AUTOTRADER, THRIFTY NICKEL, ET AL.................
I run those real numbers from the old shows sometimes.
When I can work out a location, I’ll run it through maps. Sometimes, the original structure is still there.
They do. They move these girls all over the country. They stay for a few weeks and then relocate. Then bring in new talent
Remember this.......
Hey baby, what’s your sign?
Lol! That song was BIG when I was in junior high.

The exchange names prefix in lieu of numbers would puzzle most people 30 and under. It’s funny watching kids on Youtube vids trying to figure out how to use a rotary phone. So much has changed.
The exchange thing was gone by the time I was born.

They were easier to remember - I still recall some from the 60s, like my best friend’s extension & number. There was an old radio or TV show that used an extension name and number as it’s title, but I forget what the show was called.
Yeah, this totally blows. How else will I meet these tall debonair intellectual gentlemen now?
Why did you post my craigslist ad right here on FR? Invasion of privacy!
