Germany is the latest country to demand answers from Facebook after it emerged data from 50 million users was used to inform targeted election campaigns. German Justice Minister Katharina Barley on Thursday called such methods a danger to democracy.
The European Facebook management [team] must submit a comprehensive position on the scandal to the German government, Barley told the Funke MedienGruppe on Thursday, demanding Facebook representatives visit her ministry in Berlin. [ ]
Barleys comments came as pressure grew on Facebook from politicians on both sides of the Atlantic in the wake of a scandal involving British analysis firm Cambridge Analytica, which used personal data to issue targeted campaign material to voters during the 2016 US election, among others.
German data protection officers have long had Facebook and its associated Apps in their sights, particularly for the now-abandoned practice of collecting users friends data without their expressed consent.

Don’t you remember many leaders demanding something be done about this huge scandal in 2012? Neither do I.
Who the hell looks to facebook for a decision on who they vote for?
They use every excuse they can to fine American companies.
“”””Who the hell looks to facebook for a decision on who they vote for?””””””””””””””
Nobody. We just wait until the Russians tell us who to vote for.
It must be true. I once had Russian dressing and then years later voted for Trump
Oh no.....I ask my husband who I should vote for. s/
Right before the election the wife and I had dinner at the Perkins. The hostess and the waitress were both....RUSSIANS.
That did it for us. We took off our Illary shirts and voted for Trump.
Oh....NOW were all concerned about this. We werent concerned one bit 6 years ago when Obama did it.
Fuer unsere Duetsche Freunde: Wie Goldig! Sir sind ein spaet dammit....
Ein bisschen spaet dammit. Tschuldigung. Grammatik muss sein!
someone asked if my husband made me vote for Trump;
I told them ‘no, actually Bill Clinton’s wife made me vote for Trump!’
Good one!!!!!!!!
I say BS. Facebook’s business plan was to offer a “free” service but would make their big bucks on selling ads and information. People signing up signed away all their rights for the free use of the platform.
Do you want an explanation? Well we had a good system going but then the Republicans learned to use it. So now we’re shocked and horrified and going to change everything
Mark Zuckerberg’s response to the German Minister is that Facebook is still in its puberty phase,
much like its owner Zuck.
And now it must be regulated or republicans could use it agan.
FaceBook through its front organizations controls more than enough campaign donations to make problems like this to simply go away.

As y’all may have gathered, I’m NOT a FB member (victim) :)
