The Great Mills High School student who injured two others Tuesday morning was reportedly stopped by the schools armed resource officer.I see he was not really armed, but reportedly "armed". I guess they don't want to commit to saying it themselves, instead signalling that they are only taking the word of the police spokesman. But what is special about that particular term? Why are they sure it was "the school's resource officer"? Why are they sure "two others" were "injured"? Etc.

I see that the article itself has now eliminated those quotation marks.

The shooter, is of course, reportedly dead, having been penetrated, allegedly, with apparent projectiles that may or may not be bullets.

So, then, how did he take down the perp? By beating him to death with the "Gun Free Zone" sign?

I am not sure I understand your point. These days it is almost always true that the first reports are almost always wrong.
