More than six months after dismissing Richard Simmons defamation lawsuit against the National Enquirer and Radar Online, which ran articles alleging that Simmons had undergone sex reassignment surgery, a judge ordered the fitness guru to pay nearly $130,000 in attorneys fees to the media outlets and their publisher, American Media, according to court documents.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Gregory Keosian issued his ruling on Friday. The defendants had filed a motion in January seeking $220,000, which Simmons' lawyers criticized as a "billing fiesta."
Simmons sued the media outlets in May 2017 after they ran articles claiming he is transgender. A June 2016 cover of the National Enquirer, for example, read: Richard Simmons: Hes Now a Woman. In his lawsuit, Simmons claimed the outlets published the stories with calculated malice.

Thanks. If there’s something good to be shared about someone, I support it being aired.
This sounds pretty good.
Thanks for the comments. I’ll have to admit there have been a couple of movies or appearances that I enjoyed him in. It’s mostly in the later years when I felt most creeped out by hime.
LOL, yes he was/is a stocky little guy.
No wonder we haven’t heard from Richard Simmons lately. American citizen, wants to be left alone.
These ghouls need to leave him alone to live his life.
“Yeah, that’s me... not reading articles about queers.”
So you admit you don’t even know what you were commenting on yet are offering an opinion and starting arguments on something you aren’t even aware of what it is you are commenting on? What kind of nonsense is this?
I don’t need to read an article to know Richard Simmons is a creepy little poofter.
Did you?
Libel laws do not favor public figures. They are very hard to win. I wouldn’t doubt the Enquirer’s defense was “well that’s what we heard”. It’s really as simple as that.
I guess the judges don’t want to set a dangerous precedent of finding against fake news places.
But the article also said he had breast implants. It is pretty obvious that he did not.
No pulling down of shorts required.
It's on my schedule next Tuesday between two and five PM.
It shouldn't take that long, that's just the window. I'm busy.
It depends on the audience. Falsely reporting that somebody is a Trump supporter would not be injurious in most places in Texas, but might get you killed in Oakland, California. Simmons' business is national in nature.
