MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Florida International University’s massive new pedestrian bridge collapsed Thursday afternoon in West Miami-Dade.
The bridge, located at 109th Ave and 8th Street, collapsed on a number of cars.
There are reports of numerous people injured in the collapse. At least one person was taken as a trauma alert to the hospital, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
The 950-ton bridge went up on Saturday. It was then lowered into its final position, just west of 109th Avenue that day.
The main span was built next to Southwest 8th Street.
Very sad and scary situation.

It was reported that there are also eight vehicles underneath the bridge

why would they perform a stress test whole traffic is flowing through? shit that intersection down, then do the test if it’s all good then let traffic through

There are still people trapped under there. They need to line up gradalls and cranes and get those people out of there. It must be torture for those poor people. I wish there was a way to help them.
Yes. That has been done on roads and bridges here in Minneapolis. Either a design flaw or some engineer was way off is my guess. I do work on government projects all the time. You don’t pour concrete without a private testing agency on site taking samples from every truck wether it is a five yard pour or 5000 yard. And you don’t pour until the holes and rebar have been inspected.

The contractor got ahead of his work schedule and they were sawing off the old concrete bridge railings. They forgot to install the safety systems and detour traffic around during thst task. Killed a young family of 3.
I think we can safely assume that it failed the test.
And after it collapsed, they pulled back the red crane that caused the accident. Already covering up? Look at the balcony pictures and the later, that crane is moved back as if not involved.
Flipping around at all tv stations in Miami. Every one of them are focused exclusively on the bridge collapse.
No coverage for the camera hogs demanding the repeal of the Second Amendment.
You know this is blowing their whole stratagem. Attacking the right to bear arms was the focus for the next several days, until they astroturf event in DC on the 24th of March....
Now they have to cover REAL news instead of the Democrat party’s agenda.
Look at the pic you put up and the pic of the collapsed bridge. It obviously wasn’t finished. The top supports were not in yet.
The Democrats meme will be that Trump wasted too much time on tax cuts for the rich & border wall waste of money, instead of concentrating on infrastructure rebuilding — it’s never their fault…

Another post says the red crane dropped something on the bridge that caused it to collapse. It’s hard to imagine they’d do a stress test with traffic going underneath.
It would have been nice if they stopped all traffic over and under the bridge at the time of the test.
Pretty stupid to be conducting a stress test while vehicular traffic is passing underneath. I smell mega-lawsuits in the future.
I know. But they don’t call it, “Flori-duh” for nothing.
