For the first time in California's history, the state has appointed an undocumented resident to a statewide post, announcing the decision just a day after President Donald Trump attacked its immigration approach during a visit to San Diego.
The decision made by the Senate Rules Committee on Wednesday saw Lizbeth Mateo, a 33-year-old attorney and immigrant rights activist, appointed to serve on a committee that helps increase college access for students from low-income or underserved communities.
In announcing the decision, Senate President pro tempore Kevin de León appeared to recognize the move as an act of defiance in the face of the Trump administration's current immigration crackdown.

Mateo: Yes, and that is a problem. Especially during this election that has been very negative, where immigrants have been described with some of the most horrible words but I think, at least for me, not so much from the stand point of a law graduate or a future lawyer, but more from the stand point of an immigrant and an organizer, I think that we need to be ready regardless of who becomes President. Even if it is Hilary Clinton. She is saying some great things about immigrants now but she hasnt always been on our side. She was the first one to call for the deportation of minors, refugee children from Central America. She has agreed with the policies of President Obama to deport almost three million people at this point, 2.5 million people, including many of those refugee children, many of who are still in jails across the country at this point.
To me, that is just unacceptable that in this country we put kids in jails, in prisons. I think whoever becomes President, we have to be ready to keep organizing like we have so far and that is part of the reason why I am speaking out on my case and why the government wants to deny me a benefit that, one, I qualify for and two, that I think I have worked very hard for and have, in many ways, earned through my activism, through my work in my personal life and that is the kind of message that I am trying to send to the community at this point.
What California is doing is not too far from firing on Fort Sumpter.

She is here illegally and California granted her a law license. Time to deport her.
Lock her up!
Trump needs to send federal troops into CA.
But, in a 2016 Facebook post, when she graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law, Mateo seemed to wish she was back in Mexico: [E]verything is dedicated to Oaxaca, Mexico!! to that land that I miss so much.
“Gee Whiz.... This is NOT right. Calling Jeff Sessions.”
Shhh.....he’s taking a nap....
A federal takeover of California must occur or at least, all Federal dollars headed to the state, must be shut off. Let them drown.
I said this before and ill say it again, try doing this in the UAE, Kuwait, or god forbid Japan, and watch what happens to you, they are open to the world immigration wise, but they are clear in the difference between citizen and non-citizen.
Invite her to speak somewhere she will be arrested? ... Can it be any simpler?
ping!
Whose Social Security number is she using?
The california government is hellbent on “making california mexico again.”
And from what I can tell, virtually EVERYONE in california is perfectly fine with that.
But I highly doubt that the reconquista is going to succeed, not if the Feds and the other 49 states decide to put their foot down.
California taxpayers should stop paying California taxes in defiance.
My plea to call Jeff Sessions is like compound interest.
If I call and if you call and if each of use get two friends to call, the pressure will build.
2 raised to the 20th power is a large number.
She is not undocumented.
She has documents.
They say she is a citizen of another country.
a year ago de lemon announced he had aided and abetted his illegal family members coming to and staying in the US. No investigation, no arrest.
