When news of the Parkland school shooting first broke, it resonated with 17-year-old Naomi Giancola.
A junior at Midwood High School in Brooklyn, New York some 1,200 miles away from Marjory Stoneman Douglas, the Florida high school where a gunman murdered 17 students and faculty on Feb. 14 Giancola immediately thought the tragedy could have easily happened at her own school.
It really hit home because Im in high school. That could have been my school, that could have been my friends, that could have been me that was shot or running away, Giancola told Fox News.
So along with 16-year-old Madeline Paterna, Giancola arranged for her school to participate in the National School Walkout, a protest led by students demanding action against gun violence, on March 14 one month after the Parkland school shooting.
It was really scary to think that could have been us, and I just wanted to do something because I dont want it to happen again," Giancola said.

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Thus providing another sniper a target rich environment.
It didn’t happen at her school and she doesn’t want it to “happen again” there. Got it.

Perfect example of “critical non-thinking,” as taught by the current generation of non-teachers.
What if kids don’t want to walk out and want to learn? Will thee be any teachers? Will they get bullied by the anti-gun students?
Kids finding an excuse to ditch school is news now?
Easy. Bring back the death penalty for someone who murders others.
You'll see the murder rate drop either because the murders, serial killers will be off the street, and maybe, just maybe, it will stop someone before they act when they realize their victim on't be the only one dying.
Heck, we have a teacher at my kids school egging the students on to walk out.
The Dems are trotting out their new sheep herds. Shame on the Democrats for using all these young people for their political goals, but they have no shame!
I’d take any excuse to get out of school when I was a kid, whether I believed in the cause or not.
Anything to avoid work.
Obviously not.
Shame happens when someone has morals and a conscience.
Since dems obviously have neither, they would not feel it.
What would be news is if they wouldn;t let the snowflakes back in for the year! (I would)
Kids are so cute. I remember when I was that age. So easy for teachers to manipulate.
Which is why they will have millions of kids, great TV for the activist Left.
These useful idiots will be the first ones put up against the wall and shot if it all goes communist like they are protesting FOR. Just look into what happened when the Communists moved into central America decades ago. The resistance AND the most vocal pro-communists were both shot together as both were the biggest emotional sinks, thus biggest threat.
Kids forget that their state is their country, just as France is a country. The EU is to France sort of what the US is to Florida or California.
So if something happens in Florida, and you live in California, in a very real sense, it might as well have happened in France which, like Florida, is not your country.
And if they had showed me on the TV as a member of the protest group, I would have laughed, know that they had been taken for fools cause I didn’t really support their cause, I was just flaunting the day off.
Here in the school at which I teach, it is considered mandatory for all students who CHOOSE to participate to go to the gym while the ones who do NOT choose to participate go to the auditorium. The major problem for ME is that, as a staff member, I do not GET a choice which one I want to supervise.
