The Courts against Proposition 65
American Thinker.com ^ | March 13, 2018 | Richard Zuber

A federal judge has frozen plans to require all products containing the widely popular herbicide glyphosate to display a Proposition 65 warning in a landmark ruling that could signal the turning of the tide for California's nanny-state regulations. The decision by Federal District Judge William Shubb represents a significant blow to both to the much maligned Proposition 65 and the organization that accounts for so many of its listings, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

Shubb's ruling is a major victory for states' rights – due to the size of California's economy, its overregulation spills over into other jurisdictions – and for farmers' groups around the country who had pushed back against California's imposition of these costly and misleading warnings. Shubb has struck another nail in the coffin of Proposition 65, a law so universally detested that even the leftist L.A. Times came out against it.

A lengthy legal wrangle

Around 1.8 million tons of glyphosate has been used across the U.S. since 1974. Such a commonly used chemical has obviously demanded a rigorous health and safety assessment. It has repeatedly been certified as non-threatening to humans from regulatory bodies all over the world, including in the U.S., Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.

Proposition 65 is a(n expensive) joke.

Every place of business and every gas pump has a sign warning you will get cancer if you breath within a thousand feet of the sign. Well perhaps not that bad but the signs as a warning is worthless since they put them on almost everything.

Not surprising that the IARC, a United Nations organization, is using shoddy methods to cripple western agriculture.

Sounds rather similar to the “Climate Change” scam.

A joke? Oh, come on. Prop 65 signs have saved tens of thousands of us Californians from dying of cancer. Just look at some of the warnings:

Thanks Kaslin. The problem isn't getting the Prop knocked down -- the problem is, its advocates are going to be left alive.

These warnings are worse than useless. According to California everything you eat, breath or touch is subject to a warning sign that it might cause cancer. So the things that might actually be a risk are ignored. Liberalism kills.

Monsanto Corp has extreme clout in DC, thus much control over the crooked court system that always seems to side with Monsanto in legal matters. Prop 65 requirements would mean placing the carcinogenic warning on milk cartons unless it contains organic milk, most soy products, many fresh tree fruits and nuts, etc. Any crop that glyphosate is used on that has direct or indirect channels to the human food chain. Monsanto Corp. never loses, not yet anyway.

Dicamba is worse (for killing neighbors’ crops). Farmers shouldn’t be coerced into buying products associated with it.
