Eladio Sanchez is unimpressed by the eight border wall prototypes looming over his house in Tijuana, Mexico, almost within spitting distance of where US President Donald Trump will visit Tuesday.
At age 30, he has already snuck over the border several times, and doesn't expect Trump's wall will have much effect on undocumented migrants like him.
Pointing to the only prototype with an angular barrier at the top -- a concrete structure built by Texas Sterling Construction Company -- Sanchez says that one might slow him down a little more than the others.
But, he told AFP, "you can get over it anyway."
"It's just a little more complicated. But people are always looking for a way to get over -- out of necessity, not because we want to."
In Tijuana, Trump's visit to the prototypes looks like just the latest slap in the face from a man who launched his presidential campaign calling Mexican immigrants "criminals" and "rapists" and has since driven US-Mexican relations to their lowest point in recent memory.
It's as if "he wants to come just to tell us he's here, that he's going to do what he promised with the wall," says Sanchez, who lives in a small gray house in a poor neighborhood that juts up against the border, across from Otay Mesa, on the outskirts of San Diego.

It is illegal for non citizens to come over to the US without legal affidavits. If this incursion on our USA soil is not a felony it should be one and a shoot to kill order should be issued. Period.

It is and that what makes this whole issue so effed up. The government does not want to secure the border or ENFORCE the law.

Illegal aliens like him need to be deported from 30,000 feet on the third deportation to cut down on recidivism.

Instead of the incentive to get here, such as get over the wall and reap all the benefits, take away the incentive. Make it so they wouldn’t come over illegally if you sent a limousine for them. Make it so there are severe penalties just for being here illegally, and no benefits. You wouldn’t even need a wall.
Trebuchets to send them back?
Design the wall with devices as seen on building walls in “Demolition Man” that were installed to defeat the grafitti artists in San Angeles.

The ozone alone would deter anyone from even trying.
I read that the winning wall prototype would be tested by Navy Seals, or their equivalent, by attempting to scale it. Have not heard or read a follow-up on this.
It definitely will slow down pregnant women.
Not skilled enough for those jobs in Mexico or intend to do something other than work in the US.
